Apply liberally

I noticed an inequity in advertising/media lately. How come every where I look, I see ads promoting liberal ideals, but I never seem to see those promoting conservative ideals ( Read more... )

it seems to be more socially acceptible to be liberal than conservative. It's all ok to support "women's right to choose" but not OK to support "fetus right to choose".

You will find that conservative idea's are all very, well, banned.

Thats really weird. Its not just because I hang out with college kids who are 95% liberal? Well no I know it isn't cuz I get weird ads on myspace as well, but that IS aimed at highschool and college level, I think.

and we're in California and all.

I have been to parts of this country that thought me a horribly liberal valley girl, but I ran from those places pretty quick.

It's just not safe to leave California anymore.

Its because you live in a liberal area; I see conservative and liberal propaganda plastered all over the place around here.

it's because you live in san francisco, likely. it'd be a different story if you were in ohio, south carolina, etc.

I couldn't disagree more, and studies continue to show that this is not true. But I'll shut up now.

Actually if you had studies that would be better than opinions, which so far is all we have. I'd be interested in reading about it. I have no idea how much of my "reality" is based upon the fact that I live in California in a super liberal area, and am a college student. But I would think a lot.

i think it's a "silent majority" type thing- maybe living in ohio, i have a warped idea of how many conservatives there are in the US, but i get the general impression that it's 50/50 overall. even in seattle, you see bush bumper stickers and pray for the troops ribbons- it may not be the media, but it's an expression of conservative ideals (not that praying for the troops is necessarily conservative- *i* don't want them to get killed- but for most people that's the connotation).

i feel like conservative ideals are promoted in the news- like CNN, fox news, etc. you pretty much have to get the new york times in order to get a balanced perspective where i live right now.

Well see, thats whats interesting to me. I DO see a ton of conservative stuff like bumper stickers and flags.. just not any paid commercial media stuff. And I wondered why that is, unless the conservatives think they don't need to because things like the news or politicians already espouse conservative ideals?
