So I am really thinking about a non-hospital birth. I would love a home birth, but I am a little scared that something would go wrong, and we couldn't get to the hospital in time. There are a few birth centers in Austin I could check out, but I hate the thought of picking up and going home 6 hours after the birth. I would like a little more time to

I looked into the birthing center in Killeen while pregnant with Canyon. I think it was around $4K but with Tricare, they said it dropped the cost to around $2500, which you have to pay before you give birth. Since we didn't have the money, and I was like 6 months pregnant, I just decided to stick with the hospital. I was happy with my hospital birth so I'm doing it again ;), though, part of me would like a homebirth but the thought of cleaning it all up - or something going wrong - I could never forgive myself. Kris isn't for it either, which is surprising since he is in the medical field. ;)

I had a great birth with Cannon, but I am afraid since it will be a different doctor and hospital. I also hated staying so long in the hospital for no reason.

I don't know, maybe look into having a doula or someone there present? Did you have one with Cannon? Just a thought. I never mind staying in the hospital, it gives me a chance to relax - which is a plus when you have to come home to a housefull of kids ;). I like the one on one time with baby. You'll be fine. I always heard horror stories about Darnall - but you know what - they were SO SO SO good. I wouldn't change a thing.

you CAN get tricare to pay for homebirth stuff, but you have to really dig for the information. i'd be happy to pass along what i have when i have a little more time, just let me know.
