Activities for an almost one year old?

Jun 11, 2007 16:50

Towards the end of the day, I count the minutes till Cannon's bedtime. He gets cranky at night, and I am so exhausted (thank you pregnancy) that I feel like I can't deal with much more. This is especially true when Eric works late, and I have to do the bedtime routine (since he does it every night that he gets home before Cannon goes to bed). The ( Read more... )

We bought some baby Einstein DVDs that teach babies/toddlers different things and our kids just adore them! I let them watch the DVDs when I am making them dinner.

I think Cannon still might be a little young. He watches one in the morning with breakfast, but he rarely looks at it. If he doesn't have anything else to do (like he is strapped in his chair cause I am taking a shower), he will only tolerate it for 5-10 mins tops.

He does seem a little more interested in Sesame Street, so I might try to buy a DVD of that. The tv just doesn't hold his attention.

have you tried "The Wonderpets"? Kaellyn is a little closer to Cannon's age, and she absolutely loves that show. We also got her one of those scooter type things where they can walk in circles or they have stuff attached to it to play with. You can also try one of those things, they used to be called Johhny Jumpers way back when, but they hook into your door frame and the little one can sit in it and bounce.

We have a stand alone jumper. He just hates being confined. Since he is so cranky at the end of the day, our activity really has to include me. He only wants Mama.

What about one of those Entertainment centers? Do you have one of those? I don't know about your bedtime routine, but what about reading books? The ones where they can feel the objects or press things. Sing songs like "wheels on the bus", "patty cake" "baby bumblebee", etc...

We have a learning table, but he is bored with it. His birthday is coming up though, so we are looking for toy ideas. We read books through out the day, and his attention span is so short that he won't sit still long enough. I should do more songs with him though. He LOVES them, and I learn a lot of them at playgroup. Thanks.

Cannon doesn't like being confined. We put the exersaucer away a couple months ago. I'll buy a DVD and see if he likes it. I could talk with him about what we are seeing.

How about something like this: http://www.gummylump.com/front/f_product.php?id=832

It says for 2 and up but I have them for Canyon and it keeps him pretty happy. We also have those magnetic puzzles by the same company (melissa and doug) which he likes as well. I'm not big on TV for kids so we have a lot of puzzles and stuff. Is he too little for coloring? Canyon just scribbles and occassionally eats the crayons but no biggie ;)
