Subeta world
This is pretty old, dating back to around 2005-2006? Maybe slightly before, slightly after too.
I never really thought about what the world was like, just kind of followed what other people seemed to be doing, but I think there were some things that were sort of like my own headcanon as well.
Generally, it was a modern day sort of setting. That was about as much as I got from other people. But the way I saw it, it had to accommodate everyone else's characters, a world separated from our own but well...somehow joined together (I remember the time I thought I was banned, I imagined these large gates/doors leading into the world...) so that people from our world (the owners of pets, who inhabit that world) can go in.
The characters that lived there were of all sorts- creature, anthro, human...but always one of the pet species. Mine were kemonomimi people who also had animal forms. (This was a pretty common thing back then, I think...) The other pets...weren't ever named, but followed the direction that the general Subeta community was inclined towards- so there were pretty boys and an unusually large gay population. (Hence, Naoh being able to pass off as a boy simply by being flat-chested...)
The place itself vaguely corresponded to the places on the Subeta map, although I never thought that far- my characters were always confined to the same places, the same neighbourhoods, the same house...not much happened, actually. Just a lot of random things.
Anyway, I imagined the city to look rather messy, a whole lot of random things thrown together...I can't name an example that resembles it entirely (I can't remember), but at the time I thought Konoha (Naruto) was quite similar. Not classy for the most part, mostly haphazard construction.
So...most of my characters (save Skree, who..never really existed, Kogarasu, who lived somewhere else, and Rush, who lived somewhere else) lived under the same roof. Mayhem a lot of the time, what with a prankster and a creepy girl lurking around...word is that their room is entirely normal, which is kind of terrifying in itself.
All of them aren't related by blood, so it's a little odd that they're all living together, but then they're all my pets, so that is...handwaved.
There's nothing much to it, really. I wasn't really into plotting at the time, not even knowing what the heck that was...

five years later
So more recently, I thought of giving those characters and the world a much needed revamp. I'm still proud of managing to get them all the colours that they are now- those are incredibly expensive at the moment, I think, and some of those potions were given to me, so it's a shame to leave them to gather dust. That and I had a lot of fun designing them, and I rather miss the site...
Anyway, I didn't really get down to it. It's still an idea floating around, but for future reference, might as well:
This would probably be considered an AU. It's not exactly the same, no- the characters aren't really themselves, and the "master" character doesn't exist here any more, or at least, is a shadow that doesn't show up that much.
All of these characters are not really themselves- they are avatars in a game. The real people sit behind their computers and play. They perhaps don't know each other in real life, but have somehow come to enjoy playing the game together. In other words, Subeta is an MMO, and these pets are the players.
Everyone's five years older than before. (Because five is a nice number, and I'd always wondered what they'd be like when they grow older...) But everything that happened before may or may not have happened- if anything, those were only in-game events. They're two different universes altogether. Some of the group have never met in real life. They don't really live in the same house. In fact I'm not even sure what they do together and why, but a reason might pop up sometime.
So...yes. It also forms a perfect excuse to redesign them every now and then- they feel like changing their avatars, poof it's done. Maybe I'll dwell more on this, maybe I won't...
