There is one thing I disagree with in the article. I would not compare the current Prius to a Corolla but a Camry. The former Prius was about the same size as a Corolla but that is not true with the current one. The trunk is larger in the Prius than the Camry. When I bought my Prius I used Consumer Reports figure of 44 MPG to calculate my costs. In the real world, I am averaging 56 MPG over 31,000 miles. I do not go over 56 MPG and use a route going to work. that maximizes the effectiveness of the Hybrid system. I also pulse and glide. Tires are inflated to the max suggested on the side wall. I do not draft other vehicles. With that said I am not typical. Therefore the article is good but the better choice to compare would be a Camry.

I get offended when people compare the Prius to a Corolla. If you got the best, highest package, you'd get some of the features that are available on the higher priced Lexus. You get so many options that you can not even get in a Corolla, and some you can't get in a Camry (keyless entry).

Still, the article was very good and a bonus point for our-beloved car.

One of my neighbors who drives two 12 MPG dinosaurs said the Prius is not built in an eco-friendly way. This article points our his faulty thinking. I agree with you about the options. We traded in a 2004 Lexus RX330 for on of our Prius and it has backup camera and the computer readout on the dash is much more luxury feeling than the Lexus. Not to mention keyless entry. Plus we can plug in our iPnones to the sound system. Now I am not kidding myself the Lexus rides much better. The Prius is far from a Corolla. Thanks for posting this article.

i think the only reason they used the Corolla is not to compare "luxury" but to compare a cheaper, older model used vehicle that people perceive as having been low on gas mileage. the article wasn't about pricing and luxury options.

i drove a 1995 Toyota Tercel for 13 years that was still getting 35-40 MPG when i sold it a month ago. at 45-50 MPG, the Prius is a step up, but it's not a HUGE difference as it would be if i were driving a 12 MPG behemoth.

that's the type of comparison they were going for. i think they strictly wanted to compare a tinier, nearly comparable gas mileage car since that is what people are focusing on these days.
