Neo ProLink

I bought a Neo Prolink iPod adapter for my Prius, and the manual says to hook up the cable to the back of the radio...yet does not tell me how to get the back of the radio! I am at a loss as to open the dash as I don't want to break some minor little widget (which of course holds the entire dash together). Help!

My wife and I have a 2007 Prius each and we plug our iPhones in with an after market cable plugged in the socket located in the console. The radio has an aux button that lets you toggle back to the radio. My question is what year is your Prius and if it is newer why get this device? I simply make a play list the length of my commute and enjoy the ride.

If you have a Prius that's a 2006 or later, you have the socket. If it's 2005 or earlier, there is no socket and you have to "create" one.

For a 2006 or later Prius, the only cable necessary is an audio cable into the "AUX" jack-- no direct hook to the back of the radio needed.

Thank you for the information. That is why I posted the year. I traded in a 2005 Nissan 350Z to get our second Prius and the for the Nissan it was near impossible to plug in an iPod or iPhone. Most of the adapters at that time required a CD changer that would be disabled because the Nissan radio which was a Clarion I think had no other outputs. My Nissan was an Enthusiast model with the standard radio without the CD changer. I wish the original poster well in his situation.

Congrats on your "upgrade" to the Prius!

In the meantime-- love your icon, which lighthouse is it?

Oh, yes. You are going to have a lot of FUN taking your dashboard apart. I'm pretty sure that it has been discussed in this community before, possibly in a post I made. There's a really good step-by-step guide to taking the dash apart and putting it back together. It's not actually as scary as it sounds. Don't be afraid.

Dig through the archive here a bit. I know it's in this community somewhere...

Good luck.

No luck...I couldn't find it. The manual shows how to remove the lower glove compartment to access the air filter, there is a junction box which can be unscrewed to access the back of the radio. But I still can't see the back of the radio - and I've googled to death the internet trying to find a picture or a diagram that will let me "feel" my way to the correct port for the plug.

No, you can't feel your way there. I'll see if I can find that again for you. I might have the link buried in Gmail.

Well, I found an article on the MAKE blog that not only covers a bit of dashboard removal, it also tells you how to install an EV switch using ten bucks worth of parts from Radio Shack. That's really cool. You should probably do that, too, as long as you're in there. But not what I was looking for.

Check this out:

and this one covers what you're doing in particular.

Good luck! :)

you should be able to get to the radio plug from the glove box without taking the dash apart, just take the glove box down and you should be able to reach the radio from there,

Taking the glove box down doesn't expose any unlockable tabs or screws, fasteners of any sort.

you can acess the back of the radio with the glove box out.

I work for a Toyota dealer and have added the connector to the radio from the glovebox

*intrigued*

How do you get the glovebox out-- does it simply unlatch? Are there hooks?

(And we're talking about the drop-down lower glovebox, right not the upper one?)

weird. i have a 2008 Prius and plug in my MP3 player (granted not an iPod) into the plug-in socket in my center console between the seats. i don't go through the radio directly.

That's correct. Prius models 2006 and later have an "AUX" jack into which iPods (and other things) can be plugged. Models before 2006 (like my 2005) don't have a jack/socket-- anywhere-- for this. You have to get the aftermarket cable and you have to get an aftermarket adapted to plug that cable into the radio/stereo receiver to broadcast the sound through the car's speakers.
