Adding line-in jack for 2005 model?

May 20, 2009 12:51

I have a 2005 model Prius without a line-in jack (didn't think I'd need it at the time, but now I would like to get it if possible) and was wondering how difficult and how expensive it would be to get one installed.

I've tried using those FM transmitter things and found out I really don't like them.

Does anyone have any tips or advice on this?TIA

We just use a cassette adapter on our '05. I'd guess they're fairly expensive to install, but you could shop around at the custom stereo places, since I don't think the stock stereo has a line-in channel.

I don't have a cassette player in my '05, though. Only a CD player.

Okay, then you may have an aux channel that could be used for a line in :). I'd go check with the local stereo store, not a Best Buy, and see what they have (make sure you ask them if they've worked on a Prius before).

The 2005 Prius does not have a line-in (AUX) jack. It is the last Prius model not to have one.

I was going for one that just allowed an MP3 player to be plugged in and played that way.

I don't have an iPod.

Can you give more info on this? I'm curious to see if it would work in my 2002.

I bought a FM transmitter and it was such a pain to get a clear signal and to try to pick songs that I just went back to burning a ton of cds. *sigh*

I know I'm not supposed to, but I just use my ipod with lightweight over-the-ear headphones.
