Recall, Gas Mileage in Rain, 2010, and the Mississippi Plant.

Four topics.

1.  I was told there was a recall on the 2005-2010 models. Allegedly, the floor mat can cause the accelerator to stick?  I'm not sure how that happens. I live on a farm - I need my floor mats. I'm not ditching them without proof.

2. When it rains, my gas mileage decreases quite a bit. Any idea why? Anyone else experience this? I tested ( Read more... )

I heard about the floor mat recall in the news, but I haven't heard anything from Toyota about it, so I'm not too concerned.

I don't know about the other questions you have, but I wouldn't mind hearing the answers to them as well.

I don't know any answers, but I want the 2010 SO BAD. No reason, I just want a new one. :)

Yeah, the floor mat thing is real as far as I can tell. I had already taken mine out anyway to preserve them and replaced them with all-weather rubber ones. Haven't had a problem. Now I have mint-condition floor mats that are unusable. Thanks, Toyota! :P

I, too, experience lower gas mileage in rainy weather and cooler weather in general. I'm assuming it's because the gas engine needs to run more often to run things like heat and defrost and such.

Unfortunately, I have a 2008 model, so I can't answer your question about the sunroof or seat warmers, although I would really like those options also!

As for the Mississippi plant, well, I don't know much about that either. Hopefully someone else does.

Happy Prius-ing!

How do you like the rubber mats? Are you the person that bought them from Costco? I saw them the other day, but wondered how they would look in the car.

We seem to be having two seasons these days - drought and mud. Mud season just started.

I like the rubber mats. I didn't buy them from Costco. I got 'em at Target. They're just regular ol' Rubbermaid Weatherguard mats. They look sharp, I think, especially when the car wash people clean them for me. :D

I usually still take the car in for an interior detail wash in the spring to clean the carpets, though. The edges around the mat still get dirty. I'm in Minnesota, though, so I have to deal with snow and salt and ick.

I'm from MI and I also bought new car mats because of all the crappy weather here. I just got them from Sears. They are pretty standard and work just fine.

floor mats need to be fastened correctly on the drivers side, and no other mat on top of it,

at the dealer we are adding a tie wrap to the mat and connecting it to the seat frame, so the mat cannot move forward,

in some cases the mat has moved forward and got under the gas pedal, or people have mutiple mats that interfere with the pedal

that is with most Toyotas right now,its not really a Mat problem , more of a customer having the mats loose and them moving up, or adding too many mats

I couldn't figure out what on earth would be different in the Prius - my other vehicles seem to pose more of a danger.

My Prius has two hooks on the floor (near the seat) to secure the mat (although one of these hooks is broken). Is this standard? Wouldn't this prevent the problem?

The tie wrap is a good idea.

the reason the mats are loose ossie October 30 2009, 05:33:30 UTC
the hooks are either loose or broken and without them installed correctly the mats slide up, so if you go to a dealer they will either give you new hooks and tie wrap both sides of the drivers mat to the seat track, or tell you not to use a mat on the drivers side till the issue is resolved,

Ah, that makes a lot of sense, thanks! I just took mine in to the dealership to be serviced and they never said a thing to me about the mats so I figured the recall wasn't a big deal. Now I'll have to go back and see if they added a tie wrap or anything else similarly clever. ;)

The 2010 is sweet for sure, but I put a sunroof in my 2008. Everyone acted like it was the worst idea ever, but I see they've come around :)

I was told you couldn't do that because of all the wiring that went through the upper part of the roof. How is it? How does it look? Was it terribly expensive?
