temperature warning?

Dec 23, 2009 06:46

Today my 2009 Prius just informed me the outside temperature was 37 degrees, much like it would warn me that I was low on gas.. anyone know the reasoning behind this warning? I'm in Southern California so it doesn't get this cold very often!

Black ice, etc.

Either that or it's just making certain you (Prius owners/drivers in general) are aware of it being below a certain temp. It will go away once the temp hits 39F.

I never quite understood it before either (I also used to live in SoCal...) but it does make sense in the upper Midwest where I am now.

Oh good, it's not just mine that gets all excited at 37 degrees? It'll tell me twenty times in half an hour. "It's 37 degrees! Did you know it's 37 degrees? Holy crap it's 37 degrees!"

It's to tell you that the temperature has fallen to within 3 degrees of freezing point and to beware of icy roads.

LOL. I was weirded out by that too the first time it happened. I thought, "What an odd temperature to warn me about, Tobias." The whole car is like one big video game, like the code/hack to turn off the back-up beep and the seatbelt beep. I <3 it.

I've been meaning to ask about that here, too, and now I'm so glad mine isn't the only car with that... problem?

I really don't understand the logic about that warning and why it goes off so often. Annoys the hell out of me.
