Character Information
Name: Ciel Phantomhive (Note: I’m keeping the name “Ciel” for the female version, as it is a feminine name of French origin.)
Source Canon: Kuroshitsuji / Black Butler (Specifically, the manga, chapter 50.)
Age: Started the series at age 12, but is 13 years old as of chapter 14.
Role In Canon: The main protagonist.
Justification: I wish to play Ciel in this game for many reasons, one of which is that, as a girl, Ciel would feel even more pressure to succeed in her personal goals. Ciel is a rather stoic figure in some ways, and as such, would not change dramatically, but would change enough that I would consider her to be a very intriguing version to play in the Garden, especially with people from her past, such as Grell and Madam Red, to bounce off of. Ciel would, as a female character, change and grow down paths that the male version may have a more difficult time following. I want to see how deep the rabbit hole goes with her.
History: Here.
Changes: As a young noblewoman in Victorian society, Ciel has many expectations of her. She is expected to get married early, and to leave all that she has worked for behind. In fact, her society would have made it difficult for her to even accomplish these things in the first place, as it wouldn’t have been deemed appropriate for her gender. These additional pressures, on top of the already difficult life she has lived, has made her even more stubborn and prone to fits of anger. She is much more desperate to prove herself, as very few aside from the Queen take her seriously. She thinks herself capable of standing on her own and deserving of all the respect the men in her society have. She has had to work very, very hard to be respected, even with her demon’s help. Ciel is so bent on getting that respect that she tries to act more masculine and ignores a lot of what was taught to her in her lady-training lessons.

Most of Ciel’s personality is the same, aside from all of that. She is still a very determined, proud, and heavily traumatized child looking for retribution.

Also of note is that I have changed Sebastian’s name to the feminine Sebastienne, as Sebastian is female in this AU. I have also changed Elizabeth’s gender to male and name to the masculine Isidore, shortened to Izzie, to carry Ciel and Lizzie’s relationship and engagement into the AU.

Personality: Ciel Phantomhive is very determined and prideful. From age 11, she has built up a toy making giant of a company, along with her underground tasks for the queen. She was even willing to sell her soul to a demon in order to live on. As such, she does not tolerate failure from those she has entrusted to accomplish certain things. She does not like to be toyed with, though this is somewhat hypocritical, considering she loves toying with others. Ciel is clever and enjoys making people trip into either their or her own traps (especially her maid and contracted demon, Sebastian*). She also enjoys rather “boyish” activities, such as hunting and chess. She loves to play games, especially when she is winning at a them. Her confidence and amusement becomes clear when watching her use her mind to its fullest.

She is a very distrusting person. Due to her past trauma, her desire for revenge and her work for the queen, she believes that almost everyone has some sort of selfish motive; she trusts certain people because she thinks she understands what their motives are. Ciel is also very, very bitter about the world in general. This only enhances her desire for revenge.

Ciel, while being a very closed-off person to all but Sebastienne, has her tender side. She cares for what little family she has left, protecting them as best she can by keeping things from them (or jumping in front of a bear at lunchtime). She loves her cousin and fiancée, Izzie*, despite the fact that he can irritate her something fierce. Some of the few people she respects are Queen Victoria, plus her Aunts Frances and Angelina. (This could be, in part, because all three are somewhat terrifying in their own right.) She refuses to admit that he misses her parents and will only speak of her trauma to Sebastienne. It wouldn’t be far off the mark to say that Sebastienne is the only person Ciel is ever fully honest with. With how rarely she is honest with even herself, this makes Sebastienne an extremely important figure in the young countess’s life.

As a member of of England’s upper class, she leads a rather pampered lifestyle, but she is not naive, nor does she judge based on class. She is fully aware of the state of things outside her mansion. This doesn’t make her less demanding; on the contrary, it allows her to fully use the tools around her (which often include people) because she is aware of the cost of doing so. Ciel does judge, however, on usefulness, unless you have managed to get under her skin and root yourself in her heart. She is willing to do almost anything to reach her goals, including killing or ruining other people’s lives. She suppresses most of her guilt and does attempt to make amends to those who have been left behind after her enemies are disposed of, but always makes excuses for doing so.

Ciel, as a noblewoman, is expected to be polite and mannerly at all times, especially when in public. She excels at this, smiling and simpering like a lady should. She isn’t above using her sweet smiles to manipulate others for her own gain, however. She doesn’t volunteer information unless it’s to her own advantage, either. When not in public, she’s much more likely to show her true face, which is usually a sour or annoyed expression. The countess is also prone to bouts of anger and yelling, which is usually directed at Sebastienne. She is somewhat-easily irritated, especially with the people she is close to. Unlike her male counterpart, this Ciel is somewhat desperate for recognition. She firmly believes in judging by ability, and when she is not judge by these standards, but by the standards of her society, she becomes enraged. She can be rather selfish. On the other hand, the girl is also touched by honest acts of kindness, such as her servants and family remembering her birthday. She does try to hide this, though it isn't always successful. Some remnants of the happy girl Ciel once was are visible in these moments.

Deep down beneath the cold surface of her personality, however, Ciel is incredibly broken and scarred. Nearly all of her motivations turn back to it at some point. Her need for revenge, her desire to succeed, and the way she acts towards others all have roots in what happened to her in the month from her 10th birthday to when she made her deal with Sebastienne. The right circumstances can bring it to the surface, but it is usually not immediately noticeable. She does not want to admit that what that happened was anything other than “humiliation.”

Abilities: Ciel is contracted to a demon that must follow her every order, but if the demon (Sebastienne) is not in the Garden with her, she is a fairly ordinary (and somewhat delicate) girl. She owns and can use a pistol, as well as hunting rifles. She is also a proficient fencer, though real blades are another matter entirely.

Sample: A dear_mun post and a dear_mun thread. In the second link, I’m still playing the Ciel with the toys_with account.
