The subject of using aluminum wire in a hybrid motor was raised.

Because of its greater resistivity, aluminum wiring requires larger conductors than copper. For instance, instead of 14 AWG (American wire gauge) for most lighting circuits, aluminum wiring would be 12 AWG on a typical 15 ampere circuit, though local building codes may vary

Now, compare availability of copper to that of aluminum. Copper is a precious metal. It's more common than Gold and Silver, but not very common at all. You can find Aluminum ore in pretty much all dirt because its in every kind of Clay. The Chinese are getting every scrap of copper they can, including buying stolen copper packed in shipping containers returning to China to fill with iPhones and other electronic toys and bits of plastic. Eventually we won't have to option for copper wire in our homes. We'll be using Aluminum because that's all that's left. Repeat for our electronics and electrical, including the high tension power lines which are often already aluminum because its lighter than copper and stronger for the purpose

Copper is getting more precious. So people should turn in that broken hand tool, small appliance, battery recharger, etc with a motor or coil of copper to be recycled. I think most times it is thrown in the trash. Many trash pickup business are sorting through the lazy peoples trash looking for that sort of gold. Dirty Job.
They tried aluminum wiring in homes in the 1970's and failed. They are trying again. The problem has not changed yet they think they are being smarter about it.
