youre losing your weight too fast!virtuosobiaNovember 29 2005, 16:44:11 UTC
hey heres something you might want to know about weight loss. you dont want to lose more than 2 pounds per week and heres why:
your body can only burn fat so fast, so if you are too far under your maintanence calories, your body will use your muscle for its energy as well as fat, and so you really wont be gaining anything since you will be losing fat and muscle. with too few calories, your body thinks it is starving and so it does everything it can to save itself. it will eat up your muscle and it will slow your metabolism down, a slower metabolism means if you ever eat any more you will gain more weight than if you had eaten more. so i might suggest eating a little more. i weigh in the low 140s and my maintenance is around 3000. just keep weighing yourself till you figure it out. i can help you if you want. good luck!

I was also going to comment on this. I gave Tony his rough caloric intake based on forumlas I have recieved online. Of course there is a margin of error but I got roughly 2500 maintance calories for Tony based on what he told me about his activity level and how easily/difficult it is for him to gain weight or lose it. After I came up with this 2500 calorie maintance level, I told him to deduct about 500 calories from that number to create a 500 calorie a day deficit which would result in burning fat. (500x7=3500 which results in about one pound of fat loss a week.) So Tony you are either eating too little like Will said or burning too much and we need to fix the numbers on your basal metabolic rate tests. Congrats on seeing progress though! We shall see a new ripped Tony in no time!

I know what you guys are saying because we had problems with this on cross country. But I know right now I lost all that weight because it was from over eating. I've cut back alot, and I mean alot, since Ivan explained all the calorie count stuff to me. Thanks for the help there Ivan. And we three need to be hitting the gym together so there's something to motivate us. Ivan, you've been saying the past few days you just don't 'feel' like going, where you need to work through it and keep a routine. If you don't, then your body will on ly be able to function when it's peaked, where if you just go out and do it everyday then you'll be a machine, able to go whenever.
