As a former kid with bad eyes and badteeth, can I just say that you got the contacts/braces chronology right. For a few horrible weeks in middle school, I had huge pink glasses AND brand new painful braces. I looked like a train wreck. Very glad Ehlana got the contacts first. :)

LOL! We were talking about exactly that while waiting at the optometrist's. She said, "I'm glad I'm getting the contacts now. I wouldn't want to look like a TOTAL geek with glasses AND braces."

:o)

(her glasses aren't geeky at all; rather, very flattering and cute)

She had a helluva time getting them out tonight, too. I'm not looking forward to the whining tomorrow AM when she has to put them back in.

That braces aren't probably for another few months yet. Since the ex has told me in no uncertain terms that he's not helping pay for them, I have to get financing. But I need to chip away at a few bills first. My freakin' electricity was $250 this month. ;_;

Soft lenses or hard? I never did get the hang of getting the gigantic soft ones in and out. If I ever revert to contact lenses again, I'll probably go back to gas permeable for ease of use, though it must be possible - a vast number of other people seem to manage.

I wince on your behalf for the braces, but it's best to get them over and done with now. Otherwise you end up like me, doing it later on when it takes twice as long and costs a heck of a lot more. :-(

She's got the soft ones. They're a bugger to get out of her eyes and she kept folding them in half. But I think overall they're more comfortable than the hard ones would have been.

I'm hoping we'd be in for no more than a year of the braces. Her teeth are crooked, but not that crooked. In fact, they're that "cute" kind of crooked and I wouldn't have bothered except that the top ones are pushed inwards; that, and she's got an overbite and that really needs to be corrected.

Of course, when she gets them off, she'll be stunning and I'll be sitting on the non-existent front porch cleaning my non-existent rifle regularly. ;o)

By the way -- you are the best mom EVER. I wasn't allowed contact lenses until I was IN COLLEGE. Now I am twisted, warped and maladjusted. ~__^ (And won't even wear sunglasses.)
