So, I get to play with Red Hat Enterprise Linux at work. I think it's anything but enterprise-worthy, but then I think that part of what you want is flexibility, because I'm usually working for outfits that are developing new technologies. Thus, their staid attitude towards what they will support is . . . less than helpful ( Read more... )

Oh, on a related note, I was able to manually stuff xfs.ko into the existing kernel's /lib/modules directory, and run depmod. Combined with installing xfsprogs (thank you, rpmforge), this let me create a filesystem. Yay! Then I tried to mount it, and got "Operation not supported." Boo.

THANK YOU EASTER PAEYL!

This was the clue I needed. I compiled the module with no options, wanting to keep it simple. When I added in the non-experimental stuff under XFS, such as quotas, and re-did copying the xfs.ko file and running depmod, it now works! Hot damn! Thanks so much!
