The monastery

So, last week, I went to a monastery for just a few days. A co-worker asked if it was "relaxing." I experienced the release that only comes from enforced simplicity and good-quality meditation, so yes, it was relief from stress. But not relaxation in the usual sense.

And I had a lot to think about. )

1) That's what, $2.15k US?

2) Consider what appeals to you about games. Games can be one of the few non-academic/scholarly ways to pit one's mind against puzzles (logic, word, social, political, spatial, etc.). What bigger puzzle is there than your mind, and what bigger game than living?

3) I learned things about myself that I couldn't ever have learned without being married, and (later) without being divorced. I try to convince myself that it wasn't wasted time.

See, I can dig the whole meditation as play thing. I am well satisfied with that answer. It is only if he had turned around and said that play isn't necessary or important, I would've been all fuck that shit, I'm going to go enjoy myself now.
