I'll take a shot... But why is it... that the same people who are picketing about the whole war issue right now... them being against it... are some of the the same people who are using their "freedom of speech" and what not, to get homosexual marriages legalized.
I don't get how these are connected... They wouldn't even HAVE that freedom to fight for what they want if there wasn't wars to get that freedom in the first place.
Most people aren't against war itself, and quite the opposite when needed. They ARE, however, against wars which aren't really helping anything at all and are just a waste of lives, resources, and time. They wont fight to continue to have the freedom of speech and all that they have NOW, but they want to fight more towards other freedoms that they would like to have as a US citizen. We all know the saying "Freedom isn't free", but why do so many people forget that?

Not fighting doesn't necessarily limit one's opinion, but I am tired of all the cheerleading going on about war by all types of people who would never, ever for a minute think of going themselves. They say it is the right thing to do, we are helping people, etc. etc. But I think the true test if you believe in something is would you go and help yourself? Would you put your life on the line for some Iraqis who want to blow you up?
During WWII, people enlisted in droves because they believed in the cause and there was a real enemy who stood a chance of actually threatening our freedom. Now, we're fighting a war that the country is rapidly losing faith in because it's becoming and endless quagmire. People don't believe in the cause, and it's showing - military recruitment rates are WAY down. Something's gotta change soon, either they are going to have to start pulling people out or start a draft because we simply don't have the manpower.

War is different. Call it a difference of opinion or whatever you like, but I say put up or shut up. Anyone can go serve their country if they really want to because the Army is REALLY hurting for people right now. It's becoming a real problem, and if you don't believe me go here or here. Of course, I don't think they'll actually do a draft we need a lot more boots on the ground that we have. Technology alone can't fight a guerrilla insurgency

how does fighting wars elsewhere, where there was very little threat to us personally (hello, Saddam, no WMDs), automatically equate to us having freedom?
