On Friday, Lilian turned 3. I still can't believe it! I think she's gone from a toddler to a preschooler and I don't like it. I mean, I do, but I don't.
My sister, Kate, was in town so we got to celebrate the actual day with her. On Friday, Josh and I walked into Lilian's room and said Happy Birthday and she jumped up and said, "I'm three now!" which was ridiculously adorable. Then Kate and I took her and Brendan to the Broadway Diner for breakfast. She only wanted toast, but the waitresses sang happy birthday and brought her jello with whipped cream. She was thrilled! Then we headed out to
Clark's Elioak Farm to spend a day with the animals and attractions. On the way home she had a juice box and promptly threw up all over the parking pad when we got home. Luckily it appears to have been a mixture of heat and juice box, because she's been fine since. Apart from more tantrums than usual. But it was heartbreaking when we were leaving the farm because she asked me with the saddest little voice ever, "What did I do that was naughty?" Anyway. That night Josh grilled us up some pizzas and Jenna and Shawn joined us for dinner and the ugliest cake ever.
Saturday we went to the Fell's Point Farmer's Market and then to the pool at Merritt. She had a great time and mommy and Aunt Kate enjoyed strawberry coladas. She also started to scream bloody murder when not getting her way. This is new with turning three. It's lots of fun. Then we had lunch from the
Gypsy Bus, as Lilian calls it, and some relaxation time at home. While Lilian was in her room, Kate and I undertook the arduous task of making rainbow cupcakes - the pastel version. Then we said our tearful goodbyes to Kate and I came home to ice the cupcakes.
Today we had her birthday party at the Tot Lot (a local playground). I've tried to do it for her birthday every year and this was the first successful one - the first was canceled due to rain and the 2nd due to excessive heat. I think everyone had a good time and I am completely wiped.
She continues to be absolutely amazing. She cracks me up on a daily basis. Yesterday she told Kate and me that she was just being a riot. And once she asked me, after having a cupcake in the car and then being told she had to nap, "But how will I nap without my mustache??" Her frosting mustache, that is. I love this kid more than is possible.
She had so many changes this year too. The brother was a big shock to her and she had some difficulty adjusting. More tantrums, regressing and wanting to be a baby in Brendan's carseat, and she's not too interested in him. However, she hasn't really tried to hit him or anything like many other kids do. She definitely gets jealous but she seems to keep it in check.
I still can't believe that it was only 3 years ago that she wasn't in my life. She changed me - us - and made our lives so much richer.
