This woman and my body image

May 30, 2013 17:10

Recently had a really soulful, philosophical discussion with a good friend on a variety of topics across the board. We discussed the fact that both of us have high Charisma scores, and can therefore both be very persuasive, and can guard against others' attempts to persuade us socially with some ease. We use our powers very differently in life, ( Read more... )

If I knew I couldn't fail... o_buggsby May 30 2013, 23:31:52 UTC
I would pursue my music. I love it... a lot. I also love acting. Both of these activities allow me to express myself in a way no other method really does. Neither is "practical" however, and I'm not really confident in my talent/abilities in these areas, so I am getting a PhD in Biochemistry instead. (Odd when you think about it, since science has always been far from my best subject. Maybe it attracted me because one can succeed in science without innate talent ;o)

Anywho... those are just my musings.

Science may attract you because everything in it - including your success - is quantifiable. The very nature of art is that appreciation of it is subjective -- and there's an audience for everything, and a critic for it, too. A degree in science says that you're learned, a scientist! A piece of paper in art could never say that you have talent, however. We act like education can be won, but talent is an innate gift from god, or accident of the stars -- and it's there, or it isn't. I'm not sure I believe that. I'm a big believer in what Edison said, "Genius is one percent inspiration, ninety nine percent perspiration." And shit -- his middle name was Alva, and looked what HE overcame to attain greatness!

Pursue your art in whatever form you can. Every day, every week, even if only a little bit, and even if only in the shower or while driving alone in the car. :)

I've always thought that you're a beautiful person. I don't look at the body because IMO it's irrelevant to whether you're beautiful. If I looked at the body, I wouldn't have the most awesome woman in the world as my wife (sorry, you'll never take first place as the most awesome woman in the world). ;-)

I've known people that society considers beautful that I consider ugly because while they have great bodies, that's all they've got that's worth anything.

I'll have to think more about the overall topic. What is my Achilles' Heel? I'd have to say it's a lack of belief in myself. I haven't figured out what I'm going to do about it, but I will think about it. Great line of thinking. Thanks.

Sorry, but I'm fucking awesome. waywalker May 31 2013, 15:23:22 UTC
I don't care about failure, personally. I've never looked at doing something and thought I didn't want to do it because I might fail. I will admit that I am not good at it, or that I'm not the right man for the job, but if I want to do something I simply do it. I know there are things I can not do, but I do not realize I can fail ( ... )

This is a beautiful post, Trace. Made me smile. You are beautiful. I haven't seen you, but I don't have to- to know that you are.

I think mine would be much deeper, much less pin-pointable... or rather, something I don't know how to fix even if I can detect....

... but I'm working on it. Slowly.
