A few weeks ago I switched this LJ to friends-only, meaning it can only be read by LJ members. I found it was too easy to google my LJ and I figure my boring life, but more importantly personal information about my family, shouldn't be publicly accessible. I intend to go back and friends-lock all older posts over time ( Read more... )

There's a mass-locking tool available from LJ - I know not exactly where or how to use it, but do know it exists. If you're going to lock all older posts, might be useful to look for it if you don't already know it.

Ah, flock. I love it ever so.

Yeah, I've heard of it. I think it limits how many you can lock at a time? Or am I thinking of the one for exporting posts?

I looked - you can do them all at once, but only if you have paid, permanent, or plus accounts. I'd suggest switching to Plus, using the tool, and then changing back. ;)

I found it through this FAQ page.

Got it after some quick googling.

For future reference:
1. Download ljArchive at http://fawx.com/software/ljarchive/
2. Archive your LJ in case anything goes wrong.
3. Download LJ-SEC at Sourceforge http://sourceforge.net/projects/ljarchive/
4. Install LJ-SEC.
5. Run LJ-SEC. Restart twice because it freezes.
6. Look at the LJ-SEC LJ support community http://community.livejournal.com/ljsec/
7. Finally download entries successfully after restarting again.
8. Hit the button that doesn't look like a button.
9. Run in background for aaaaaaages. Seriously slow going, and frequent restarts because the software is slow and the connection often times out. But it gets the job done.
10. Have a spiffy secure LJ.

You could open an account to view it. You don't have to actually use the account for anything but reading and replying, and it stays logged in.
