I'm confused.

I thought Hindi was only a spoken language. Do they make up the spelling (that is, spell it out with the American alphabet) just for us?

It's written too (at least, you can write words in Gujarati), but looks more like Chinese characters or something. But for the menu they put the names spelled like that on there, so I guess it's like a phonetic thing so we Americans can actually ask for whatever it is we want b/c we would not know where to begin if we saw the bizarro characters that mean whatever the food is.
