You know - I think different larping regions of the US have different rules/conventions. When looking up weapon making online, I ran into some strange recommendations on a few websites (I can't recall them right now). However, as someone who wanted to learn how to make weapons a few years ago and did a thorough google search at the time, I do not recall ever running across that particular piece of advice.

Out here it's not uncommon for people to run strapping tape lengthwise (not spiral) on PVC in an effort to reduce whip... I still haven't decided if this is in any way effective, but that's largely because I decide too quickly that I don't care, and my mind moves on.
I've never seen anyone do this to an ultralite core, and I've certainly never heard of any game requiring this. I'm'a call bullshit on this one.
I break cores from time to time...however I play Amtgard now and fight with significant more force...but I tend to use golf clubs in a pinch otherwise my new FAVORITE Core is solid fiberglass rods sold at farm and fleet stores. Heavier sure but Belegarth and Dagohir have weight minimums and In the past I used PVC so the weight is an issue.
