Nightmare on Elm Street only recently? I saw all of them (maybe except the last one) because that was my speed of horror. It's not overkill (pun not intended. Intended if it's funny).

What do you think of the Star Wars prequels, were they as bad as I've heard?

I was a complete wuss when it came to horror movies until i reached adult hood. I had nightmares for days when I was 10 because i saw an ad for the Exorcist being shown on TV, and I still remember being 5 yrs old and running a fever because i was so terrified of Willy Wonka for weeks. My mother brought that up for years, how the doc said I was sick from stress. So, yeah, not until i was into my 20s could i even entertain seeing a horror film, lol.

And the first Star Wars prequel had me walking out of the theater going WTF?? but honestly i think the 3rd is the only one worth watching, i do remember enjoying that for the most part.
