Grad Gift

May 11, 2007 16:15

This is just gonna be a super short entry, but my mom asked me what kind of thing I would want for a grad gift, and the first thing we both agreed on was a laptop computer.

So NOW, I just want opinions on what type would be the best to get.
I know that some of you have laptops, so I'm open to all thoughts on the subject!!!

Macbook Pro, 17 inch, with the RAM and memory maxed out (coz you'll need it).

p/s I think the person who commented below me has very little information stored on her computer. My experience with the Macbook Pro is this: I put a quarter of my music on it, and it maxed out. Only 2 percent of the photographs I own are on it (the rest I keep on my PC, same with the music), and I can only edit one video at a time without external hard drive memory. Pretty much every Macbook Pro/Macbook user I know complains that the downside to Macbooks is the limited memory capacity, and a lot of online reviews will tell you the same thing. However, since you are keeping your PC, I suggest you just do what I do and store the bulk of things on the PC while only keeping the essentials on the Macbook. Right now, I'm in the midst of a huge dilemma over what to delete on my Macbook next coz it's maxed out AGAIN for the billionth time and I don't even have space to install Photoshop on it. :/ With the amount of videos/music/images I know you download, I definitely suggest doing the bulk of it on your PC coz your Macbook will be maxed out ( ... )

you don't need a macbook pro unless you are planning on storing tons and running crazy programs. I have a macbook, tons of music, tons of photos, and lots of programs, and it works fine. Plus its smaller so it is easier to take places. I though I would need a bigger screen when I bought it, but this is perfect. I take it to class everyday!

you also don't need to max out the ram/memory unless you are planning on doing massive video projects or something. i upgraded both of mine, but dind't max them out. I work for UVic photographic services right now, and they all use macs and none of them have maxed out either - and they are constantly working with huge files, etc.
