Tonight I threw out all the words I wrote. That makes it sound dramatic, but it wasn't really. The words just weren't any good and after awhile I couldn't force myself to try and draw blood from a stone any more. Some nights are like that. My work ethic tells me to keep pushing but my muse suggests that sometimes it's best to step away. Haven't ( Read more... )

Hey, man, nice words. I have a stable of re-reads as well, including Sandman, Watchmen, Dark Knight Returns, and a few more. I check out graphic novels and comics collections from the library now and again--if you haven't seen the TV series, you might enjoy The Walking Dead. The new Dark Horse series of Conan's pretty good. I, too, gave up on Marvel & co. when the crossovers reached the point of saturation. The industry is fascinating, but the DC & Marvel worlds haven't held my attention for a long time. Just the thought of picking up a random issue makes me tired, given all the continuity--normal and artificially inflated via annual world-shattering events--and the endless attempts to drain dollars. They just aren't for kids anymore and haven't been for a long time. As to a local shop, I don't know if you want a sort of all-encompassing shop, but there's a Fantagraphics shop in the north end, as well as various shops in the U District. I still like browsing them once in a while, but I'll usually just pick up an issue at random.

I've been meaning to check out some Dark Horse titles, my understanding is they put out some pretty good stuff. I believe they did an Indiana Jones series a while back and somehow I've never read it (though I'm grateful to them for putting out the Marvel Indiana Jones series into trade paperbacks--some of my issues, despite my best attempts at preserving, are clearly showing their years ( ... )
