not saying much

This is a quiet evening. I'm sitting in my office, sipping a beer, listening to beautiful abstract music that a good friend made. I'm not writing; too fresh from the annual trip to Chewelah, perhaps, or too drained from work. There is much going on in life but I can't even really approach it in a journal entry. Some of it is too sensitive, some ( Read more... )

Glad to hear you're well, even if tired. Sometimes we need to refuel. The first half of this year was very rocky for me, in terms of writing new words. I struggled, sputtered, and did some of this, some of that. Nothing (much) flew, so I retreated and read more, painted more. Apparently things started happening behind the scenes, as I'm starting to move toward what I hope will be a new novel. There were some promising false starts on another would-be novel earlier this year, but this one feels like it's got more authentic tension and real characters... so I guess we'll see.

My creativity has been in a pretty good place since we moved; it really is simply a matter of finding time. I'm embarrassed at how long it's taking me to revise my current story, even though I think the story is good. But a glacial pace is better than no pace at all, I suppose. I set aside some time for writing this morning before working out in the yard and it was productive. Unless I somehow end up independently wealthy, chances of which I think it is safe to say are nil, I'm always going to be fighting the time battle.

Congratulations on the move towards a new novel! IIRC, it was two years ago now I was privileged to read your first draft (or was it three years ago?) I have very fond memories of sipping beverages on my deck and reading your pages. I still have my copy! I'm always happy to read anything you write.
