It was the first time I got my own wellies as I had, very disappointingly, grown out of the ones which came with my Paddington bear. I was too much of a nancy to go sledging, but I did enjoy making slides on the snow by repeatedly slithering on it until it was like sheet ice, no doubt felling many a pensioner along the way. Do children still do this?

Two little boys made a slide like this last week, at the back of where I live. Their mum came and covered it with salt, writing "sorry" in the soft snow beside it.

Glad to see the traditions are still alive. It was absolutely verboten to do it at my school but the playground was iced up nevertheless. (That was me who posted before; I forgot to log in)
