Meat n' Greet

The rest of the crew assembled on the Observation Deck to meet the latest editions to their numbers. After the revelation that their worlds are gone, many of them are even more eager to see people they knew from home.

Several people are set up near the doors to provide the new people with omnicoms and comm rings. New crew-mates might see a tall ( Read more... )

"Do you need some help with that?"

For one reason or another, Sakura stood out to Yzak as she stood there messing with the omnicomm. Yzak was naturally up on the Obs Deck, dutifully waiting to see if a familiar face ... or even somebody who could simply pilot a mobile suit showed up. In the meantime, however, helping new arrivals that weren't in either category wasn't out of the question.

Her head came up, a small, self-aware smile turning her lips up at the corners. It's that obvious, huh?

Part of her wanted to be able to say no, but the wiser, more wary part told her to not be ungrateful for assistance offered, no matter how unsure she was of the situation at large.

"Ah, yes, actually. I haven't... used something like this before." Or seen anything like it until it had been handed over to her.

"You're far from the first one," he remarked offhandedly. Partially because being at ease and not feeling completely out of the loop was a good thing ... and partially because it was just true. He stepped over to her, leaning over and hovering a hand over the device in Sakura's hands, pointing out specifics.

"Basically, instant communication to other crewmembers is possible through this thing. It comes in handy not only in emergencies, but for casual use as well. It's a pretty simple structure -- type out whatever message you'd like to send here, and send it by touching this. You can send messages to the entire network, or to specific individuals."

She followed his explanation, filing the information away. She'd have to spend time playing around with it later, but she could start to make sense of it now.

"How do you tell it to differentiate between the entire network and specific individuals?"

"Everybody on the ship has their own one of these things," he explained, reaching down for his own. "I assume it's in the ship's systems when we get new arrivals and when our numbers lessen, but," with his free hand, he continued to press a couple of things on Sakura's comm. "But, its default is for the network as a whole. You change it like this, and choose who you'd like to send a private message to. Of course knowing names helps with that."

Sakura nodded slowly, hoping that she was really understanding this. "I imagine it would," she said, "Which means making a lot more introductions than I have been." Par for the course by now, if she wanted to take everything at face value for the moment. "I'm Sakura Haruno. Thank you for your assistance."

If this device stored information beyond this communication network thing, she had no idea how to access it. Maybe it'd be intuitive. "Is there any record of those changes in active crew-members that we can access? Or is that more of a way of seeing who's available at a given time, based on the names you can find on here?" And what do you mean, "when our numbers lessen?"

"Yzak Jule, and it's not a problem. There are ... quite a number of things you get informed about upon waking up. So an extra word of advice is be prepared for that."

"These systems give you all current crew members. I don't think we have instant access records of changes, but if you want to ask either the ship itself or our captain, they might know more about that."

"A pleasure to meet you," was such a standard, automatic response that Sakura only found it out of place after the fact. All of this was a mixed pleasure, the truth of the Ohm none-withstanding. Her small smile was more self-aware than she wanted it to be as she took his advice to heart.

In the meantime, Sakura refused to let herself look through the current crew members for a familiar name. If anyone was here, she'd know shortly. If they weren't...

"Is there any particular protocol for getting in contact with either Stacy or the Captain?"

Yzak glanced around, eyes scanning through the others currently on the Obs Deck before he made a quick pointing gesture to the omnicomm. "For the captain, this could be the fastest way. He doesn't seem to be up here at the moment. As for Stacy, you can just try speaking to her wherever you are."

Still running around the Meet N Greet in search of any familiar faces, Duo wasn't seeing anyone from home, but he did spot Yzak across the room, along with an unfamiliar face. Wondering if perhaps the girl was another Gundam pilot from his world, he skipped over to them, shouting ahead as he approached.

"Yo! Yzak, this someone ya know?" Giving the other pilot a hearty slap on the back, Duo turned his attention to Sakura. "Sup. I'm Duo. New here, huh?" She got a tiny wink and a 2-fingered salute in greeting.

"That's convenient." Disturbing too; the idea of being able to speak to one entity, one that Sakura didn't even fully understand to be an AI (not that she knew what an AI was), at any time was disturbing. Dealing with it a short bit ago was difficult enough.

Now it was sounding like a permanent 'feature.'

About to ask another question, she stilled as someone else approached. She didn't recognize this new young man any more than she had anyone else in the room, but based on his greeting and general comportment, he wasn't part of the group who'd just been vine molested... or else he was extremely adaptable. "Sorry to say I'm just an unfamiliar face he's been so kind as to help out." If her eyebrow rose a fraction at the wink and salute, that was all her comment. "Nice to meet you, Duo. I'm Sakura."

With that, she held out her hand for shaking, if he was so inclined.
