Meat n' Greet

The rest of the crew assembled on the Observation Deck to meet the latest editions to their numbers. After the revelation that their worlds are gone, many of them are even more eager to see people they knew from home.

Several people are set up near the doors to provide the new people with omnicoms and comm rings. New crew-mates might see a tall ( Read more... )

Listening in on half the conversations going on around her was helping Sakura take in information about things she'd not even thought to ask. Still, sometimes reiteration had a point; in this case, she chose to focus on the one related to navigation.

"I'm sure you've heard this a few times by now, but -- I heard someone mention a map of... Stacy? Is there a way to get a copy of that?"

"Hi yes, there is a map." Matt picked up his Omnicom and made a few keystrokes, uploading it to Sakura's. "There you go. The map is accessible from the Omnicom and details all of the major points of the ship. I've also added some hot spots as well, such as the blacksmith, atelier and clothiers as well as the directions to major departments highlighted."

"Is there anything else I can help with miss?"

"A brief rundown of expectations, rules, regulations... I've been listening, but the most I've heard explicitly comes down to asking for people to volunteer their time where their skills are most useful rather than outlining expected conduct."

She waited to hear any sort of answer, serious in her inquiry. Not knowing the limitations or expectations for behaviors could be dangerous enough when one was in a foreign situation at home. Here, on a foreign ship, with people she didn't recognize, indirectly asking after the same things seemed ill advised.

Even if being so direct bothered her, it felt more prudent than waiting to absorb the fine details on her own.

"Laws are set down by the council. Primarily they involve treating the next person with respect, don't lash out aggressively or earn violations. Too many result in punishment." Matt's voice dipped a little. "Punishment is far too brutal for anyone to experience but there is a record of it in the Media Library provided it hasn't been removed. I would suggest if you do view it, you steel yourself... and turn down the volume. All the way."

His expression wasn't pleasant but it righted itself in a moment. "Civilians can come to the Council as well as the officers for aid. There is security as well as other departments housing people of various skill levels. We have a medical area as well."

Matt uploaded a list to Sakura's Omnicom. "There's our constitution. It's helped to guide us a little better, and try not to step on anyones toes in unique situations."

Even more to look over, though with something as important sounding as the constitution, it was moving itself quickly to the top of Sakura's 'to-do' list. This man's expression as he talked about punishment made her straighten up unconsciously, squaring her shoulders. "Violations? What exactly counts as a violation? How many does it take to result in punishment?"

When he mentioned the medical area, Sakura nodded. Good. If nothing else, and even if vastly behind as far as technology might be concerned, the body was still a body. Sakura knew those, and how to help keep them working, put them back together, and take things back out of them if need be. "Is there any one person or group of people in charge of the medical area?"

"Physical violence, aggression that can be unprovoked and full of malicious intent," replied Matt. "Top two. I know Winry used to hit Ed a lot with her wrench but that's playful. Somehow. But as far as I can figure, it's intent ( ... )

She wondered how accurate the statement about intent was, or how objective any watching body could be on the subject of intent when it came to harm and other persons. Sakura shelved that question away along with her personal curiosities about this punishment. Matt's lowering of his voice prompted her to believe it wasn't something he really wanted to talk about, and while it was important to know more about, it wasn't imperitive.

Other things were closer to imperitive. "I'll make sure to do so as soon as possible." Introducing herself to the people who did heal -- and what was it that he meant when he said magic? Fazia had thought Sakura worked with magic, too, if she wasn't a mutant, down in the pod chamber -- would hopefully put her in contact with enough like minds to ground her better in this reality. "How does one get invited to a mutual spar?"
