The rest of the crew assembled on the Observation Deck to meet the latest editions to their numbers. After the revelation that their worlds are gone, many of them are even more eager to see people they knew from home.

Several people are set up near the doors to provide the new people with omnicoms and comm rings. New crew-mates might see a tall ( Read more... )

"Hello! Are you new, too?"

The confident, and optimistic voice came from a blue-haired girl with what could've resembled a penguin nestled safely in her arms. Dawn was in the same boat as Sakura - trying to find her bearings onboard while searching for people who could've been from her world. Piplup was deciphering on whether or not everyone else was friend or foe toward his trainer.

"I'm Dawn, from Twinleaf Town! This is Piplup-don't worry about him; he's just protective at times!"

"Piplup!"

Penguins were new. Sakura blinked in surprise at the piplup -- that is what Dawn had called him, isn't it? -- and then dismissed him as nothing more out of the ordinary than some of the summons from back home. "I am, yes. It's nie to meet you, Dawn." Sakura would have offered her hand, but she wasn't sure it was polite to unintentionally force Dawn to shift the piplup around to shake one.

She settles on a shallow bow, polite, if not passing for much of anything formal. "I'm Sakura Haruno, from... the Land of Fire." Pointless names without a further context, but Dawn had offered her own location, and there was little harm in naming names. "I've never seen anything like -- Piplup, you called him? I haven't seen anything quite like him before."

"Piplup~!" As Sakura bowed, Piplup chose to hop out of Dawn's arms and pose standing upright, arms/flippers on his hips and head up in a proud manner. Dawn could only smile sheepishly before extending her hand toward the other girl after bowing in kind.

"Piplup's one-of-a-kind...not back home, but I guess here he's really one of a kind. And, it's nice to meet you too Sakura!"

Sakura shook Dawn's offered hand.

"For the moment. It's not a bad thing, I don't think. He's..." She paused, searching for a word. "Confident. It's endearing."

Her eyes scanned the crowd briefly, and she bit back a sigh. "How much of waht we're being told is sinking in for you?"

"Confident, protective, caring...and friendly!" Dawn added a few more of Piplup's qualities before doing the same as Sakura, looking over at the crowd herself with a light sigh of concern.

"Most of it...but so far all I can focus on is that we've gotta band together to take on something that spells a lot of trouble for everyone onboard."

Sakura found herself frowning, agreeing with Dawn's summation of the information they'd been given. "Everyone on and off this ship. If you believe everything they say, then it's also trouble for every universe to exist... and without much rhyme or reason."

From the Ohm. From everyone else, there was a sense of common unity (or common enough unity). As Marco had put it, [F]or a mish-mash group of refugees, it's not too bad.

"It's probably the most relevant part to focus on, if we're as 'Chosen' as we're supposed to be." She felt more speculative than suspicious of this claim; suspicion had been first in mind when she'd been whisked off to collect what little she'd found stashed in her assigned locker. Speculation was taking it's place as she hung on to the numb shock that kept her from thinking about the implications of any of this too hard.

Dawn saw Sakura's frown and did her best to respond with a reassuring smile and holding up a fist in determination, Piplup staring between the two girls with a confused look on his own face for a second before posing the same way Dawn had.

"We could also focus on the possibility that out of us 'Chosen,' once we've finished helping out that we'll get back home safely...no need to worry!"

"Lup!"

The optimism in Dawn's statement prompted Sakura to look back at the other girl. True... And reminding her of the optimism she needed to hold on to, like a beacon of what Naruto exuded simply in existing.

"You're right," she said, letting her expression clear as her lips curled up into a smile. "That's the better possibility to focus on anyway, isn't it?"

Piplup's own rejoinder had her smile at him, too. "Piplup seems to agree."

"Yep, he sure does! We might disagree every now and then, but that's part of being a family." Before she could get into more detail on who she meant, Dawn's cheeks flushed red as her stomach decided to make certain...noises. Piplup started laughing until his own stomach spoke up.

"...Guess we're a little hungry after meeting with other people and making new friends!"

Sakura found herself smiling in honest understanding as Dawn and Piplup's stomachs rumbled. "Based on the map, the mess hall area isn't too hard to get to from here. I hear the food's anything but enticing, but it'll fill you up."

She looked around the room, then back to Dawn. "If you wanted, we could see about heading that way?"

noneed_toworry January 14 2011, 04:04:12 UTC
"Sure! I wouldn't mind at all." Dawn agreed excitedly, Piplup nodding his approval of going to search for the mess hall. "And while we're there, we can tell each other about our worlds and our friends; that way if we run into them in the future, we can let them know that they aren't alone."

Something about Dawn's excitment was contageous, enough so that Sakura actually felt a little spring in her step as she nodded her head in one direction. "Sounds like a good idea to me. Let's see, I know there's a map on this thing..."

She fiddled around, looking up and then back to the omnicomm until she'd found what she was looking for. "Got it! Looks like we're here, and the place we ant to get to is over there."

Sakura leans over, offering her omnicomm for Dawn to examine.

Dawn checked out the Omnicomm curiously, wondering exactly how it worked. "Wow...! Kinda reminds me of a Poke gear back home."

"You have things like this back home?" Sakura let her hand fall a little, bringing the Omnicomm down. "Radios are about the best we have, when talking hand-held. What can your Poke gear do?"

noneed_toworry January 19 2011, 01:38:41 UTC
"It can let you call other friends on Poke gears across regions, and it gives you maps of certain regions when you wanna find your way." Dawn explained, recalling how the Pokegear was used back home.

"Sounds like the Omnicomm is meant to serve pretty much the same purpose." If only she could understand some of the symbols on the map... without an obvious legend, they didn't all make sense. Or was there a legend, and she just didn't have it on the screen right now?

Technology. "At least it means these won't be too hard for you to figure out and use, right?"
