Long Shots [OPEN]

Jan 23, 2011 19:38

There were some unusual sounds in the Hangar today. Namely, the sounds of a large particle rifle discharging several rounds, followed by the sound of whatever was on the wrong end of those shots quite violently becoming shards of scrap metal. Occasionally, there were also some loud thump, thump, thumps, as a pair of mobile suits would periodically ( Read more... )

And once everything had ... more or less settled, Yzak was heading back to do whatever he had initially planned on doing before spotting Setsuna and Lockon's machines, rubbing slightly at his temples and letting out a sigh.

When he noticed Sakura, he stopped, dropping his hand and giving her a small nod, hoping that she didn't have to see any of that. "Sakura."

In truth, it was probably better that she had. She inclined her head forward in her own nod, acknowledging him as he had her. "Yzak."

Taking in all of the new information... hmm. "Allenby gave me the impression there were at least two distinct different groups as far as usage of these machines, these Gundams, goes. How many internal groups are there in reality?"

More idle that necessary to know, but it reminded her to some extent of the united shinobi nations. Five different major groups with their own internal struggles and politics, forced to lay them aside for a greater defense against an enemy that was hard for them to understand.

It was a simplified way of looking at the crewmember situation, but it was one she could readily identify with. If this was part of the military force here, she wanted to understand it.

"We have one actual squadron on the ship for these machines," he explained. "The Starfighter Command is our entire fleet of various space and aircraft. The Blade Squadron is the division that these sorts of machines are assigned to."

He looked back to the Raiser. "But. These guys aren't interested in helping us out. Which is their choice, I don't care. But it means less help on our end, and more danger if they think they can handle things alone."

So these people, these pilots, as she remembered one of them calling themselves, counted themselves as separate from the group working as part of Starfighter Command. More-over, that command was airborne, a concept strange to Sakura if only because a select few could have provided said coverage back home.

"How many times have we come into conflict with the Ohm in space, as of this point?"

"Once," he noted with a small frown. He did so hate that battle immensely. "But we've only run into the Ohm twice to my own recollection. The second time was a very small-scale run in with only a few of them. The first ... was an all-out attack on a planet."

What happened was the first thing Sakura wanted to ask, though she bit back on the impulse to force herself to think it over. She settled on, "How bad was it?"

Had the world survived was a harder question to voice, if perhaps she should have anyway.

"Not bad," he noted with a small wave of the hand. "But it's a pretty stupid idea to do something like that when we have all of these other units docked here."

Back to the here and now. "I get the general feeling most people felt similarly." Some had been more vocal about it than others. "Yet was this the first time, in how long?"

"This was the first time," he noted, but then paused, "to my knowledge. I sure as hell hope this hasn't happened before."

"I doubt it has, at least like this." The reactions from people who'd been here for far, far longer than she had indicated that might be the case... in recent memory, at least. "Don't think it'll be repeating anytime soon either."

Or else visiting the hangar was going to turn into adventure central.
