Melting Clock: Quarantine

Apr 27, 2011 08:17

After Sam Henderson's announcement, the Contagion Containment and Treatment lab was going to get busy. Anyone suspected of being affected by the mysterious affliction would be brought here, and put into one of the large bubbles that would keep any potential contagious diseases in - and the patients themselves. Once in inside, they wouldn't be able ( Read more... )

Aging backwards? She didn't feel any different. Her memories all seemed in order. Sure, Kira was taller than she remembered, but guys had their growth spurts later, and he'd been here longer than her - for all she knew, being podded made her twin brother older than her.

She was reasonably cooperative though, aside from some moaning and muttering about it. "Better not waste too much time..." that... she had been using to mope anyways.

"That's what we're all here for," Sakura said mildly, a bit surprised as she recognized who'd come in now. "To make sure we're not wasting too much of anyone's."

Sakura turned to face Cagalli. "You understand why you're here?" Talk about it being hard to catch people you weren't familiar with as they aged back through their own lives.

"Tch. Yeah, I get the gist of what's supposed to be going on." She'd believe it when she had some kind of halfway-definitive proof, like... a tiny Bowser, or preteen Yzak or something silly like that.

"That keeps things simple. If you'll follow me just this way, please." She gestured for Cagalli to follow after her, heading down the hall of quarantine bubbles. "What's your full name?"

"Gotcha." Cagalli followed, looking around a bit nervously - covering it up with a harsh tone. "Cagalli Yula Atha."

Sakura input her name, guessing at spelling. When a file came up, she figured she'd gotten it close enough. "We'll have you staying in here for the moment." She stopped by an open bubble, half-turning to look at Cagalli. "Current age?"

Cagalli tapped her feet as she waited, not nearly as friendly or patient as she'd been with Sakura before.

"Sixteen." It should be Eighteen.

Sakura noted the discrepancy, motioning for Cagalli to enter the open containment unit. "I see," she said. "Records have you listed as eighteen." She looked up at the other woman, fully facing her now. "Have you experienced any kind of disorientation with people or occurrences here onboard the ship recently?"

...eighteen. Two years, not that much of a difference. Right? "My brother Kira's taller than me by more than I remember, but he's a guy. He probably just hit his growth spurt while he was on the ship." She was still sticking by this explanation for her own peace of mind.

"It's possible," Sakura allowed. Not likely, but definitely possible. "How old is your brother?"

"The same age. We're twins." Though being in the pods long probably made him older, physically. It was an odd thought.

"... Human males do reach puberty later in their teen years than females." Not to mention people tended to continue growing into their twenties. "You have your omnicomm with you?"

She nodded, at both the statement and the question, and held out her omnicomm. "Why do you need it?"

"Ah, I don't actually." Sakura held up one hand, apologetic. "I wanted to be sure you had it on you. We're making sure everyone has their omnicomm with them while in Quarantine. Monitoring for potential transmission of time-loss doesn't mean we want to keep anyone out of contact with the ship at large."

This was all precautionary, not a silence and stifle mission.

She smiled. "Probably less boring that way, too."

Cagalli nodded, smiling. "At least I'll be able to talk to people until we're done here. Thanks."
