The rest of the crew assembled on the Observation Deck to meet the latest editions to their numbers. After the revelation that their worlds are gone, many of them are even more eager to see people they knew from home.

Several people are set up near the doors to provide the new people with omnicoms and comm rings. New crew-mates might see

Of course there was a part of him that was afraid, cast into the uncertainty of this situation with Stacy's limited explanation that he was 'Chosen', uncertain of the fate of his own world and those he loved. But there was definitely an expression of wonder on Mulder's face as he grabbed his comm ring and stared around the room at the assembled masses.

There was no denying that this wasn't some kind of dream now. The 'dressing' process was starkly visceral enough to prove that.

He'd sought the truth his entire life - this truth - and now he was standing in the middle of it. He couldn't help but feel humbled to some degree by that. Still, he didn't really have answers, for all that he was standing on board an alien spacecraft. And he wasn't about to rest until he had them. He reached out to place a hand on the arm of the next person he saw who looked as if they weren't utterly dazed or shell shocked, to grab their attention

Anwei was still quartering the crowd, trying to look in every face. Hoping that one of them would light up, recognize her - and not in a bad way.

She stopped at once at the hand on her arm.

"You've been released from stasis," she said to the tall young man. Human, probably. "And you're on a spaceship between dimensions."

"But... how did I get here?" Mulder urged, not removing his hand, because personal space was for people who were better at reading social cues. "I don't understand." His tone wasn't frustrated, or angry, but it communicated his obviously deep need to remedy his lack of knowledge. "Who are you?" he added, unable to keep from noticing that some of the people here seemed to be milling around in a state that was much more relaxed than the new arrivals who he had shuffled in with. She was one of them, and the tranquility which with she answered his question made him realize that none of this was new to her at least. She was part of it, somehow.

Was she even human?

"You," she dropped her gaze and then looked back up at him, blue eyes with a hint of silver sheen to them. "What we have been told is that our worlds are gone. Not just our worlds, but our entire universes, destroyed by a powerful alien race called the Ohm."

"We are the survivors, the people pulled from their collapsing dimensions by another race, the Daligig. There are many species here on this ship, many people with appearances or skills or powers that will probably be very strange to you. We work together to protect each other, and the people still in podsleep. We hope to find a way to stop or defeat the Ohm - somehow."

"My name is Anwei. I was with the Vizsnunishne Mercenaries clerical division. I was on assignment on Earth. And then - I was here." Anwei wasn't human, but at first glance she would just look like a muscular human woman with a slightly too-thick neck, dressed in a plantsuit with a military-looking jacket thrown over it.

"Introducing the new guy, huh?" And this woman looks like a walking, talking corpse wearing a suit of slightly glowy plate armor. Mulder's life is probably just getting weirder and weirder. Although weird is probably a relative term, considering all the shit he's seen. Karis settled her weight, eyes narrowed in a slight glare. She was still a bit crabby from having been shot in the chest earlier.

"Long story short, everything is going to hell in a handbasket, thanks to these Ohm bastards."

The strangeness of her eyes caught him for a moment, and his hand slowly dropped as she spoke, his own eyes widening in horror.

Gone. The entire universe. Gone.

He scrabbled for words, trying to find some kind of emotional purchase to even stand on as he thought of everything that meant he'd lost, if what she was saying was true. It was natural to want to deny it, but he knew better than to just shut down and not accept the truth when it was staring him in the face.

Before he could form a response, someone else was there, and whatever subtle lack of humanity he'd seen in Anwei, was comically counterbalanced by her incredibly macabre appearance.

"What--" are you, was probably a really impolite question, so he decided to simply stick with the subject at hand, his eyes sliding back to the less imposing Anwei. "I don't understand," he pressed urgently. "Why me? Did these... Daligig save anyone else from my world? Are they here?"

First things first. "The people who saved us tried to save families, friends and allies of the Chosen as well." And enemies, on occasion. "There are humans from multiple Earths here; if your friends are not awake now, they may still be in the pods. And unfortunately," the corner of her mouth twisted a bit farther than a human's would, "we don't have a passenger list."

"You have been Chosen, like all of us. The Chosen are those whose stories are told on other worlds; those who can shape their own fate, instead of being shaped by it. Extraordinary people, no matter their shape."

"Yeah, what she said," Karis added, jerking her thumb in Anwei's direction. "There are millions of the damn pods down there and considering there's only a couple hundred of us awake, at most? Good bet anyone you know is probably still down there."

She grumped and waved a bony hand toward the ceiling, "But good luck getting the damn ship to tell you who's actually in there. Damn thing has so many walls up in its programming... might as well not even be in control."

Yeah, a real ball of sunshine, this one.

There was hope, then. Hope that somewhere in those pods, Scully was once more encased. He couldn't help but notice, for the slightest second, that that was his first concern, rather than whether Diana was there. No matter how complicated his relationship with her was lately, he was still rattled by not knowing whether she was alive and well now. For better or worse, she was back in his life, in whatever capacity she considered it

Hope was probably the most valuable thing she could offer right now. Hope, and information.

"Stacy is a part of this vessel; you can think of her as the ship's brain. Stacy was created by the Daligig, but unfortunately she - and the ship - are not in the best repair. She controls some functions - not all. And we are far away from anywhere that she could be repaired."

She pulled her Omnicomm out of her jacket. "We have video recordings of interactions with the Daligig; we've yet to meet any of them in the flesh. Also of the Ohm."

Agh, my bad.

"And we don't control her. More like she controls us. Sorta." Karis groused, fingerbones rattling against her armor as she spoke.

"Other than that, there's a whole bunch of crap we still don't understand."

"It sounds like you're talking about some level of control that transcends just what we're wearing," Mulder said, eyeing Karis. But his gaze riveted to Anwei's Omnicomm.

"May I...?"

"Stacy is programmed to send the crew on missions to various planets, with varying levels of risk involved. She is also the ship's - disciplinarian. She prevents people from trying to kill each other; anywhere where she has tentacles, she can slap down anyone who gets too violent."

Of course in her opinion Stacy didn't slap down nearly enough. What was served by letting these superpowered beings smash each other up, and not interfere unless the Captain ordered it or death was imminent?

"Or course," she said, offering the Omnicomm. "You'll get one of these for yourself. It's human-built, not Stacy technology; it ties into the communication channels and the Library."

"Speaking as a member of the last podpop? You get sort of used to it eventually." Clark said, after leaning on the wall and noting Mulder as a newbie.

"It doesn't get any better, mind you. But it gets less mind-boggling. Name's Clark Kent." The teenager held out a hand to shake

Mulder appreciated the friendliness, really, but given his current state of mind, still reeling from the potential loss of everything he held dear, he really didn't appreciate the obvious razzing.

He simply looked down at the hand, but didn't take it, his tongue pushing its way into the inside of his right cheek.

"Yeah, and I'm Bruce Wayne," he said dryly.
