Taking Aim - [ OPEN ]

Jr. didn't use too much imagination for his trip to the Sensoriums today - at least in terms of landscape and specific places. He settled on an empty field and a blue, cloudless sky, because his focus was more on setting up things in his immediate area. He knew Howard would probably be starting on basic things, and if anybody else dropped by who ( Read more... )

And it just so happened Zouichi decided to drop by, looking with interest at the elaborate setup. "Pretty extensive. Maybe you should open a shooting gallery sometime."

"Heh, you think so?" He put hit arms up, hands resting behind his head. "We don't actually have a gallery on the Foundation proper..." Not that Jr. needed much practice by the time the Foundation was established, since he had learned how to use a gun as a child as part of his training for war. And the Durandal had some general means of practice, but a lot of their connections came from the planet they were allied with.

"You're probably not here for basic training, huh?" he joked.

He smiled. "Afraid not. I'd never have made it out of the gate if I couldn't shoot." Zouichi was horrifyingly accurate, too, although he'd never really practiced the kind of trick shots Jr. was capable of -- no time for that kind of thing where he'd come from.

"So, you're a firearms instructor now, huh? How's your student load?"

Pfft, Jr. made time for that ... usually. If he could spare the extra couple of seconds of time or be pretty damn sure he could fire a few shots off in time. He didn't bother with a 'same' to Zouichi's first comment.

"Well it was just Howard who wanted to get the basics down. You know, since during the last battle we actually had Ohm crawling into the ship-- being able to at least fire a weapon can go a long way, seasoned soldier or not." He rolled his shoulders and looked around. "But I figured since we'd be in here, anyone else who wants to drop by is more than free to. And with you and Aya here, I can dump people on you if I get more than I can handle!"

Howard shows up a little late, not because he's actually held up in any way, but because he can't help but feel self-conscious. As much as he teases Jr., he's not dense enough to think he could possibly impress Jr. in a combat or sharpshooting situation. A lot of Howard's bluster is just a desperate attempt to cut people down to his own size and feel less vulnerable.

Going to shoot things will be an admission of a very evident weakness of his.

"Whoa. You've really got the whole shebang set up in here." He bites his lip a little and leans from foot to foot.

"I figured we'll see how far we can get in one session, but if anyone else wanted to learn too or just drop by and do their own thing, they'll have their own areas." He pointed down toward the more difficult and wacky set-ups. "Since even I couldn't have made it down to that area in just one day!"

He figured he'd try to make this fun while keeping a proper teacher approach about it. "Cause it is tough to master on levels like that. But the basics aren't too hard to get a hang of if you're just looking to, you know, be able to shoot if you have to protect yourself."

"Yeah, I'm not planning on carrying a gun around or nothing. I just, you know. Zou taught me how to disarm someone but that doesn't do me any good if I can't fire back, if it comes to it." From a technical standpoint. Howard doesn't know if he could do it from a mental standpoint anyway.

"So, where do we start? I only kinda know how to use a glock, and I've never fired it at something before."

"Hmm, you know you can disarm people with a gun, too," he decided to mention, just for the hell of it. "And not in the 'just shoot'em in the arm' way, but you can actually get the gun out of their hand. Of course, that's the more advanced class."

Jr. motioned a hand toward the closet full of weaponry. "That's why we're starting here! You can always come back to another one later, but for starters it's always good to get a feel for the kind of weapon you'll be better at handling." He patted one of the holsters at his side with his other hand. "I tend to stick with two of the same kind, mainly so they can make up for each other in terms of speed when it comes to firing. But there are all different builds ( ... )

Aya had walked in, looking amazed. This was her first proper trip to the sensoriums but Jr. knew how to set up a target range. That was a good sign - the kid clearly knew his stuff. Heck, he knew how to set up a practise area than some of the "experts" Aya worked with.

"Nice setup you got there." she said with tempered amazement.

"Thanks!" He looked quite proud of himself at the compliment. "Glad you got the message - so I figured I'd set up a little more than the basics for the practice so we could have some fun."

"Haha, excellent!"

And there was Aya, looking off at the guns. That closet was practically a treasure trove. It caught her eye and she couldn't keep herself away any longer. Her eyes grew wide as she attempted to select just one firearm for now.

"You don't mind, do you?" she said as she turned back to Jr. with a sniper rifle. "I mean... it's your turf so your rules but I haven't had a chance to practise so much."

"Hey who am I to say no? That's why I set this up for anyone else who wanted to drop by!"

Erhart just stares at the little fellow, obviously intrigued, but just as obviously too large for any of the standard weapons he's got there, at some 8 feet tall.

"With your permission, may I simulate Astartes-Pattern weapons for this practice?"

carrieswar November 3 2011, 04:40:28 UTC
Woah Erhart was tall. Jr. had to strain himself to look up at him, but at least he did so in a way that didn't make it seem as though he carried himself like a midget. "Hey," he greeted with a wave up to Erhart. "I just tossed up some random assortments to get started with someone, so sure, go ahead!"

A small pause. "I don't know what Astartes-Pattern weapons are, anyway, so now I'm curious."

Erhart raises his hands, using the Sensorium to manifest a few out of the display area a moment later. They are huge weapons, too large for anyone who was not something of a giant to wield.

"These are the instruments of war that Astartes use. The Bolt pistol, the Boltgun, the Lascannon, the Multi-Melta, the Heavy Bolter, and the Missile Launcher." Each of them are huge, boxy weapons, the Lascannon looking something like a sniper rifle might look if it were to be attached to a tank. The Bolt weapons all are huge, menacing weapons that quite obviously fire some kind of solid ammunition, and the Multi Melta has barrels with odd grooves, and obvious fuel feeds on the side.

"Astartes ... is that some kind of military?" he asked, giving Erhart a curious look. But not one that lingered for long because the weapons appearing caught his attention instantly. He was intrigued, despite the fact that Jr. probably couldn't hold any of the weapons. Leaning close to get a better look at one of them, he tapped a finger to his cheek. "They look pretty techy ... I'm guessing these are the standard sizes of weapons where you're from."

If there are guns to be had, there you will find Hit Girl. And what a jackpot this place was!

Yes, she knew it was the Sensoriums, but what difference did that make? It was still a shooting range, and she'd never had the chance to really put one up? Why? Because she usually preferred shooting at people. But right now, stumbling into here,s he could see taht this guy knew his stuff: and better still, she recognized him!

It was the kid with the red hair from the planet with the cult fucktards!

"Hey! What's up with all this?"

"Oh, hey!" he smiled, recognizing Hit Girl-- from the same place. He'd probably use the same terms in describing it, too.

"Heh, following up on a request for a little basics training for a friend." He bobbed his head to the side to motion toward the closet of weapons he had conjured up. "But I figured I'd offer anyone else some free target practice while we were in here."

"I'm game for anything that requires some shooting," Hit Girl said, grinning. "I haven't been inside a shooting rage for awhile. Who's the friend you're helping with the basic training anyway?"

"Howard," Jr. answered with a jerk of the thumb back to the other boy. "It's pretty important to at least know how to use a gun right in our situation, huh?"
