I'm just saying this because I like to, not because I can 100% tell if it relates to your situation, but it's worth a shot:
Yes, some people are really conservative and will not be understanding, but don't rule every conservative person out. Hell, I know a guy who works at Fox News who, upon coming out to him, only wanted to know what pronouns he should use.
