It depends how big the class is, but I certainly didn't come out to any of the other students. (I go to a rather small dojo.) I told the head teacher that I was changing my name to Michael; he thanked me for telling him, and no one called me by my old name again. I counted on him to tell the other teachers (I'm sure he did, since they stopped using my old name without being asked), and the students took their cues from the teachers. The pronouns fell into place on their own. I live near Boston; people here have a clue, generally. ;)
