So I came up with this idea last night. I was talking to M@t about routers and linux machines and stuff like that, and we got talking about how Linksys tech support is great, except like any place like that, the technician on the end still walks you through all the basic tests ( Read more... )

So in other words, it's basically like the level codes you get in some games?
But what if someone starts publishing cheat codes?

Why would you want to use cheat codes? It would just mean that you skipped the simple tests that you don't know how to do, possibly meaning that you find your problem even slower.

I wouldn't. But there are people who figure they don't need to bother with "them thar silly stuff. I knows how it works and it tain't that!"

Ah, this is what I get for not checking my email.

Yes, what kyth said below is essentially correct. This is a case where using cheat codes can truly be said to hurting you more than helping. However, I had thought of trying to come up with a way of verification. But this was basically a ten-minute idea that I thought would be neat, and never got very far in the thought process.
