What exactly are the rules/conventions of the "100 word" thing?

It's an exercise lj_user: anonymousblack began a little bit back, and I go along for the ride. She has 100 words in a jar and pulls one out each day and writes on it. It can be anything. You can find more about it on her lj.

There seem to be a lot of 100 word projects, 100 word stories, 100 word writing exercises... I've found lots of different sites dedicated to such projects around. I'm really enjoying this so far. It has been great exercise.
