people are rude

This morning I opened the front door just as a car pulled up to the side of the road, blocking my driveway. I couldn't see the whole car because the hedge was in the way, but I kept my eye on the car as I prepared to lock the inside door. I saw a guy standing in the road near the car, and I thought maybe somebody was just dropping him off. I locked ( Read more... )

I guess it's easier for some people to be rude than to be considerate about where they put their cars.

There's a traffic regulation here that says if a streetcar is stopped and the doors are open, cars coming from behind must stop behind one set of doors or the other. Recently, I was getting on a streetcar and some jackass in a van had blocked the front doors, which really made it awkward for the two dozen or so people getting on and off. I told him he should move back (there was plenty of room) but all I got in return for my efforts to help others was a 'kiss my ass'.

Um, no. I can't remember when I added you or why but I guess this is my first comment to your LJ. Sorry, I'm not trying to freak you out here.

You didn't freak me out, but it's weird to have a stranger talk to you all of a sudden out of nowhere as if you know them.

Well sure, if anybody parked there long enough for me to do so then yeah, I'd definitely call the police. People only really do it while they run into the hardware store or run into their apartment for a minute or drop someone off. The kinds of things that are short enough that people think it's okay.

It's funny, I was talking to my landlord's girlfriend about it earlier this evening and she said before we moved in people would actually park IN the driveway to go to the hardware store because the regulars figured out that nobody was living there.

Of course, if my landlord sees anyone parking where they aren't supposed to and he goes out to have a little talk with them, they don't do it again. He's a pretty intimidating looking guy. :)

And actually, his girlfriend said she'll talk to him about going to the municipal office and see what they'll do, like put up a sign or paint the curb or something. That would be cool.
