1854 - Oscar Wilde
Definitely the most famous gay man of his time. Wilde was known for his fierce wit. He was convicted of "gross indecency" in England for being a homosexual and spent 2 year doing hard labour. After his release he left England and never returned.

I never knew he was in Husker Du.But,the musically alternative 90s passed me by.

Husker Du was actually in the 80's... about the same time as R.E.M's rise to fame. Sugar was the band that I would classify as a part of the "Alternative" 90's. It's funny, I also didn't listen to that kind of music in the 90's... I was all about jam bands like Widespread Panic, Phish, and of course the Grateful Dead. It wasn't until the late 90's that I had embraced my inner angst enough to enjoy that kind of music! :)

I can highly recommend the Mould/Morel "Blowoff" dance parties - held periodically in D.C. (where Mould lives) and less frequently in CA and PDX.
