I have a question for those of you who are watching this community. I want to change the look of the calendar in the sidebar. I also want to change some code that may break any of the theme layers, if you have them. The latter is a minor change, and the former is a major change. The thing is they will both change the way this style looks.

ulitmately its your choice as the dev.

It is my experience that in general people will complain if given the opportunity. I would suggest making any changes that are unlikely to break anyone's layout and then announce.

For more major changes I might announce first and then change. If anyone who is using it and not reading this community has problems, they'll probably find the community soon after.

On 'major' changes I said 'neither' only because I thought "making sure everyone's OK" was a bit too ambiguous. I think in the event of a major change, you should announce the changes first and give everyone a head's up, but not necessarily take a vote on it, or stress over the minority of users who will oppose the change. Ultimately, you are the dev and I trust you to make changes to the code as you see fit; this is why I choose to use your work in the first place!

That's the same reason why I chose neither.

But... but... but... I ♥ the calendar! What do you want to change about it? (It's so very sleek and simple, and is the only one I know of that shows the number of entries on a date. I find that very helpful.)

I picked announce, then change because I do think discussion is good.

Opal also shows the numbers of entries on the date. Or else Component does. I only know this because it was a reason I removed the calendar from my older layouts based on those styles.

Hrm. Must have been Opal (a layout I really don't like) because I used Component before switching to this lovely style, and Component does not show the number of entries under the date. :}

I really like Transmogrified as is, though I'd prefer having the date attached to the entry, rather than at the top of a group, and I can tweak that myself. So I voted neither for both, because I'd prefer to be told about the proposed changes, then have the option to implement them or not.

Unless, of course, I'm a total ditz and you changing the base code won't change my style layer.

I agree with this totally for major changes. Minor changes I don't mind at all.

I guess for me I wonder what constitutes a major change? Because if it totally changes how the style looks then I may be turned off because I like the way it looks currently. However I created the style in my own journal rather than just linking to it so I would have to update my code to see the changes.. Hmm.

I trust your judgement, it's been all good so far. So just go with it and don't let me stifle your creativity.

Although I suppose if it's a really controversial change you could always make it an option in the preferences to change back?
