۞ Wand:
Walnut with phoenix feather, 8½ inches, unyielding.With walnut being described as the wand wood for highly intelligent characters, it only makes sense for Ed, being a prodigy, to align with such material. However, given how temperamental and stubborn Edward can be, a phoenix feather core would be preferable. What's more, the phoenix is the highest symbol in alchemy and one Ed is familiar with. It represents the completed, successful Human Transmutation, life born from death, and something that has only ever been done by Ed. Finally, the short length and unyielding descriptions both fit Ed, when taking into account his diminutive height and stubborn personality.
After a few days inside Hogwarts, Ed will use a kitchen knife to carve the above date into his wand as a replacement of sorts to the State Alchemist watch he had while living in Amestris. This date being the day that he and Al burned down their house and began their journeys. This won't be seen by casual glance at his wand, since the writing is very small. Because Ed won't often have his wand out other than to use for spell casting, and because he won't draw attention to the marking, it should go mostly unnoticed.

Naturally, Ed will excel in alchemy, given that is his natural ability. Likewise, given transfiguration is similar to transmuting material in some respects (especially when taking into consideration Gamp's Law of Elemental Transfiguration), Ed will excel in this subject as well. As he begins to become more familiar with the world of HP, he will eventually have a firm grasp of non-verbal spell casting, likely due to his ability to preform transmutations without the usually required transmutation circles. Finally, Ed's firm understanding of chemistry and related sciences will translate well to Potions making, since it's show Ed has enough proficiency to gather the chemical ingredients needed to construct an average adult body.
Despite these strengths, Ed will have difficulties in other areas, including Divination, most likely because his scientific-centered mind won't allow him to "see beyond" (much like Hermione can't get a feel for Divination either, due to her logic-focused mind). What's more, Ed, having automail limbs, will find it difficult to find balance in flight, making it difficult for him to excel in this area.
۞ Uniform:
Because he's already used to long coats and vests, Ed will feel rather comfortable in his uniform, wearing it with ease. Both in classes and out, he'll usually have his shirt untucked and his tie loose, hinting at some of the laziness that is typical for Ed. His sweater and pants will always have a bit of lingering chalk dust and a few stains of ink, caused by all the notes he takes.
Ed will rarely if ever be seen without his gloves, the white cotton likely to stand out against his dark robes. Which is why when he's not taking notes or carrying something, essentially doing things with his hands, he'll have his hands in his pockets.
