I have finally beaten FFXIII.

Yes, I know it came out like two years ago - and I had the damn thing preordered, so I wasn't slacking around. Then I spent like two months messing around on the Archylte Steppe trying to kill the stupid Oretoises, and then I moved to Seattle and didn't bring by PS3, and then my PS3 broke. Fun times.

Thoughts! )

The only reason I had a decent idea about what was going on was thanks to Baco insisting that we read through the, uh, information part of the menu. Whatever that was called. It's one of my major pet peeves with the RPGs I've recently played (which, okay, includes a total of three games: FFXII, FFXIII, and Dragon Age). SHOW, DON'T TELL. Seriously, stop making me read through pages and pages of text to get involved in your awesome world-building you've done; I don't have the patience for it. THIS IS NOT HOW YOU USE THIS MEDIUM.

Anyway.

but the characters spend most of the time getting either manipulated or led by the hand, so they don't have any real control over their actions either.

Just like the player! How meta of them.

Come to think of it, I might have been so reluctant to leave the Pulse sections because they were the only part of the game where I could run around and do whatever

I agree with this completely. I was so excited when we got to Pulse because there was suddenly freedom! To choose what sidequests to do! To go in ( ... )
