Does anyone have any information on the adoption process? I know it varies from state to state. .... I'm from New Hampshire and I am trying to adopt my girlfriends son but I just wanted to know what kinds of ID is required.... basically I'm wondering if I can slip by the radar with my gender. I pass 100% of the time, so I am wondering if they will ( Read more... )

Well- that depends on where you are. "Jamie" fortunately is a unisex name(I have know both males and females with the name). It also depends on if your documentation is accepted. Being able to pass won't mean a thing if they require you to be married, determine gender by birth certificate.
I wish you the best on that.

No matter what state you are in. If you are in the US you will have to have your birth certificate if born in the US (If born outside of the US Green card/ Naturalization papers). State ID, SS card, finger prints and so on. If you have changed your documents then dont worry if you have mixed documents then you can adopt without your transition history coming up. Even if your documents are mixed New Hampshire does have laws in your favor.

My wife and I have completed the paperwork aspect of beign approved to adopt. We are just waiting for a child. The paperwork is all the same no matter what type of adoption. The only thing I would recommend for you to consider is whether the child had a father listed on the birth certificate. If there is a father you would have to have rights terminated or voluntarily signed over for you to even adopt your girlfriends child.

Best of luck
