I have a question. I want to raise money for my transition, but I technically can't work, so I figured I would start in the work study program. Is it possible to do without the government (i.e. WIC/TANF/other), taking benefits at home?

I'm sorry if that doesn't make much sense.

I don't know anything about the work study program, but I'm curious as to why you can't technically work.

See, the way government assistance programs work is, they base what you get on how much income the household has. And since it's just me and my mom (and I'm not working), we get a pretty good amount. However, if I suddenly started working, they would either bump us off completely or take us down to where we don't have much. And with that, I'd have to spend all of the money I'm trying to save in order to pay the rent and bills, thus defeating the purpose.
