Somewhere along the line of helping Scout sort some things out because Naoto's just nice like that, he wound up with a new best friend.
No, really. Naoto considers Scout just about the best friend he's ever had. Yeah, okay, he's a bit of a moron sometimes, but underneath the yelling and insults he's actually nice, and Naoto didn't expect that. He certainly didn't expect Scout to go through all the trouble for Naoto's sake that he has - keeping his girlbits a secret without freaking out, asking about how to be feminine on the network, even just getting him to stop being so serious all the time and have a little more fun in life. As far as Naoto's concerned, having Scout around is probably the best thing about Atia. If there's something he's glad about in coming to the island, it's the friendships he's made here, but his friendship with Scout just isn't like any other he's ever had.
Now that they're dating that adds another layer to their relationship, of course, but they're still friends first and foremost. Spy himself was not behaving well either and has shown no such maturity and responsibility for himself, and when Soldier's the more mature one of the two of you, well. Basically, Naoto's still feeling a little hurt about it, but he likes Soldier and respects him more for how he's been handling himself under the circumstances.
