How do you reconcile Arak as male then? Shouldn't Arak be a spider queen instead of a king?

If this is your main line of reasoning, why not just make a dominant female?
to add to that
1) Even if the residents here can be mostly human, that doesn't stop a female from being able to be dominant and aggressive. Futhermore, I would like to add that, if spiders (any spiders, spiritual non-Earth archetypal spiders included) were personified and given a culture, it would probably be a matriarchal society.
2) I don't understand what you mean by 'dominant genes'? Are you referring to genes that are dominant instead of recessive or are you talking about genetics giving someone a dominant personality?
3) If the Queen only had one child that was a boy that had to be raised as a king, that I can understand. Fair enough.
4) Just because it's fantasy doesn't mean it can be unrealistic. Usual spider behavior can be used as a sort of motif for how they would behave, and therefore should apply to them. Take a look at the Drow dark ( ... )
