Character Name: Shilo Wallace
Fandom: Repo! The Genetic Opera
Age: 17
Species: Human
Gender: Female
Sexual Orientation (if applicable): Heterosexual
Physical Appearance:
one Shilo is a slight girl with a small physique, and is physically rather weak. Pair this with her pale skin and light brown eyes, and most conceive her to be a fragile creature, even though this is not necessarily true. Her head is completely bald, and covered with a black wig. Her general style of dress can be described as victorian and perhaps a little on the gothic side, as she frequently wears mesh and lace, paired with vintage necklaces and rings.
She stands at 5'1" and weighs 100 lbs.
Personality and Traits:
Shilo is a naturally inquisitive person, and rules hardly deter her thirst for knowledge, for her curiosity often gets the better of her. Because of how she was raised, shut in her room by her father, she naturally distrusts people, even though she yearns for friendships with others. She holds a fascination with the outside world, collecting insects whenever she sneaks out and comes across them. She would also spend long amounts of time at her balcony window (fenced off, of course) and at her mother's grave, attempting to feel connected with the world she was being shielded from. She learned piano and often sang with the television, inheriting her mother's beautiful singing voice.
Others perceive her as vulnerable, but this is not necessarily true. Naive about the world outside, yes, but Shilo definitely knows how to stand up for herself or for anyone else she wants to protect. She would rather observe other people than participate in most discussions, because people interest her intensely. Her core is definitely kind and compassionate, and even though she is quiet, she is still very spirited and has very big dreams of becoming independent and living in the world outside. While she is a nice girl, she's still a teenager and can lash out derisively in arugments. She is drawn to those who live freely, such as her Godmother, Blind Mag, and Grave Robber, the drug dealer.
Canon Background:
In the not-too-distant future, an organ failure epidemic plagues the planet. People die left and right as a cure is frantically sought for. Out of the ashes rises GeneCo, a company devoted to organ development and transplanting. They offer payment plans for those who wish to have operations but cannot afford them. This creates a fad of surgery as a fashion statement. Plastic surgery becomes extremely commonplace, and those who can afford it do it sometimes do it daily. With this comes the miracle painkiller, Zydrate, which is harvested from the bodies of the dead; however, this began a black market trade, and grave robbers became extremely common. GeneCo is run by the Largo family, consisting of Rotti, the founder, and his children: Luigi, Pavi, and Amber.
There is one catch: if you don't keep up on your payments, you can expect to be visited by a repo man who will come take back the company's property.
Shilo's mother, Marni, was in love with Rotti Largo. She was best friends with Mag, a singer born blind. She was given eyes by GeneCo, binding her to the company, the contract underlined with tones that would not permit her to leave and still keep her eyes -- or her life.
Marni's life was perfect... until she met Nathan Wallace and fell in love. They were married, she became pregnant, and then sick, and Rotti became wrought with jealousy, deciding to take advantage of the situation. He switched potions in Nathan's lab right under his nose, and just when Nathan thought he'd found the cure, he ended up killing his wife, barely managing to save his daughter. After this, he agreed to work for Rotti so that he could continue to live and support his daughter.
Nathan feared losing his daughter like he had lost Marni. From a young age, he convinced her that she had inherited a blood disease from her mother and began to feed her medication. This medication was actually a poison that weakened her, keeping her bedridden for most of her life. Nathan used this to keep her inside the house, even locking her inside her room. Shilo was forced to plunk away at the antique piano in her room, watch television, or seek temporary sanctuary at the small balcony in her room. She felt animosity for her mother, who she thought gave her the disease, and her father for keeping her in her room, as she believed that he was ashamed of her.
Still, as she grew older, she became more curious about outside. She would occasionally sit at her mother's grave while her father was out at work -- she believed he was a doctor (a lie he propagated) but he really worked as a repo man for GeneCo. During one such day, she spotted an insect and followed it outside, running into Grave Robber and fainting outside, only to be found by her father in his repo man garb. He convinced her that she was dreaming of going outside to dismiss her.
Later that day, she met Rotti Largo who told her that he could help find a cure for her disease. She agreed to accompany him to a festival where he introduced her to Blind Mag, not knowing that she was either friends with her mother or her Godmother. Later that night, Mag shows up at her house to see her, and Shilo begs her to stay, wanting to learn more about her and concerned that she would lose her life after announcing her resignation from GeneCo. Nathan chases her out and Shilo tries to convince her father to go after her and stop the repo man, but Nathan manages to pacify her.
Rotti tells Shilo that if she stops the repo man at the opera that night, then she will be given a cure. She lures him in and hits him with a shovel, dropping it when the helmet comes off to reveal the face of her father. In the middle of her own show, Blind Mag pulls out her own eyes and dies. Luigi, Pavi, and Rotti then tell Shilo the truth of her mother's death and her father's poisoning, and she is outraged. Rotti says that he will give her GeneCo if she shoots her father, but she hesitates and the lights go out. He manages to grab the gun from her and shoots Nathan before dying from his own terminal illness. Shilo forgives her father just before he dies.
She then leaves the opera, choosing not to inherit GeneCo and ready to face her new life.
Strengths/Abilities:
While she is not physically strong, Shilo is smart, quick-thinking, and able to get herself out of most situations. Her small stature allows her to hide and evade people easily. Her compassion makes her avoid conflict wherever she possibly can, opting to talk things out instead of resorting to violence. While she is able to harm others, she hesitates and balks at the thought, and cannot find it in her to take another human life.
Weaknesses/Faults:
Shilo bruises easily and has a weakened immune system due to the systematic poisoning she endured. She is, logically, not able to land strong physical blows. She is sensitive to smoke and dust, as it is easy for her to have breathing problems.
Items Brought With Them (anything aside from the clothes on their back):
A necklace of her mothers and three rings, along with the blood pressure monitor her father made for her.
