It is very odd to me the disproportionate number of females with companion animal welfare interests. I am part of the Student Animal Legal Defense Fund and it is consistently almost all girls, except for 2 vegan dudes who are mostly into stopping factory farming, etc. and not taking care of dogs like the rest of us. But I know so many boys who love dogs, but maybe it is a different kind of love. I don't really know.
My friend is going to be in Portland for the summer and she has the best Great Dane ever, named Ramona. And she will love you a lot and even sit on your lap, which is endlessly entertaining. Anyway, maybe you can meet her sometime :)
Good luck with all your writing and painting, the Vonnegut really is awesome.

the female:male is so strange! because yeah, boys totally love dogs! but the few guys i see at the humane society even seem to be there with there with their gfs/wives...i don't know. someone should investigate it.
AND OMG GREAT DANE!!

thanks for the luck--i hope school eases up soon :/ what do you get to do for the animal defense fund? sounds really awesome.

that painting is incredible. you are so talented becky, it floors me.

and congrats on getting back into writing! i think that you're right, if you feel like you're making progress on your own and starting to be happy where you are in portland, then maybe waiting a little while is a good idea. my dad's a writer, and he didn't actually get his mfa until i was a kid, but he was writing and publishing before that. (he can teach a little now too.) you should follow your heart on this one.

thanks for all of the support :)
i didn't know your dad was a writer! that's awesome. and yeah, the mfa is pretty optional, but it seems like a good way to get someone to fund time for people to seriously work on their writing, which is part of why the no-funding is a dealbreaker. but i'm feeling pretty okay with it. when do you move on up for UW??

yeah, my dad's a fiction and creative non-fiction writer, and he teaches. he *finally* finished his first novel that he's been working on forever, i'm so proud of him! :)

i probably won't move up until the second week of september-ish... it's the quarter system, so i get a longer summer (until next year when i'm not done until june). i am definitely up for doing something over the summer if you're interested!

there are probably better recipes/ways but that one is so easy and puts potato products in me so quickly :)

and, you know. thanks for being you and making my mid-twenties feel a lot less lonely.
