LJ mmm

Just read the post on the possible "limited" future of LJ ...

Might mean I have to bite the bullet and go "Facebook" ...

Guess that means that Goth web resources will get more used in future by promoters and mere mortals ...

Fingers crossed this little piece of communication stays afloat or someone buys it for a fiddy pee!!!!

See my reply to Mr Trashcan - it's just the company control moving to Russia. Needless to say this has upset the Americans quite a bit (they've already had a hard time with outsourcing lower-level jobs over there).

The USA lot are up in arms because the system has effectively moved to Russia. 20 of the 28 SF employees have been given the chop, and everything bar finance and server maintenance is now Moscow-based.

TBH it probably means a stronger future for LJ, as the Russian owners are more business focussed than the original developers or Six Apart ever were.

Though there's always Vox (vox.com), the LJ knock-off they started after they sold it to the Russians last year (this is all new to me BTW, gleaned from goddessofchaos's journal.

I think folks are going overboard with the whole LJ news and there's little to worry about tbh. About 12 staff (about a fifth rather than the half that's been bandied about) in the USA have been laid off as they were duplicating roles in Moscow.

I reckon a leaner, fitter LJ organisation is more likely to weather the current worldwide financial farcery so I'm all for them shedding a few jobs :-)

I think it's the typical problem of people getting bits and pieces of partial, biased or flat out incorrect information.

Some outlets are reporting that "20 of 28" of the LJ workforce are going, with no mention that the work is being transferred to Moscow.

The source article revised that down to 12 of 28, and other sources confirm 12 but say it's "about 20%" of the workforce.

There doesn't seem to be an authoritative statement and the rumour mill is in overdrive.
