Fashion on Holiday

I don’t know if it’s just me, but I have a slightly different fashion aesthetic when I’m on holiday, and in hot climates, than I do in urban environments (my everyday life and on holiday in big cities). I think many of us do. It’s called being appropriate ( Read more... )

I definitely look more like a hippie than a 50s recreationist when in Southeast Heaven Asia. I always buy flowy dresses or pants in the markets to wear. And, if I'm hiking or walking around temples, shorts and runners. It's the only way.

agreed :) And I bought a cute pair of pink runners with platforms in KL - sort of skechers knockoffs, but for only 30 AUD.

Also, LOL at the Goths. I can imagine them walking up the main street, amongst all the other backpackers in shorts, and the image is hilarious.

i don't tend to go to tropical climes for hols but with fieldwork i do (obviously studying reef stuff) so i end up looking the complete dag...BUT i have to admit i keep to the black.
its all field gear (i live in polo shirts and boardies with crocs when i'm working cos they're all quick dry/cover up/practical/comfortable)

I have a whole separate wardrobe pretty much thats for fieldwork so whether its mountain stuff so i have hiking boots and heavy duty pants and light-weight collared shirts and fleeces or its the reef stuff with rash shirts and wetty and reef boots...it only gets to come out of the closet on those occassions but i find it invaluable when i need it XD

...it is still all black but..mwahahaha

All black - yes, that's very you, hehe :) But you don't do the full on make-up and spooky lenses and such when on your field trips, do you? Cos you is sensible.

It's easier packing for tropical hols than for Japan, cos I take WAAY less stuff!

I dress for comfort, especially on the plane. Its trackie dacks or nice loose pants and a comfy top with a jumper and shoes that come off easy.

I pack some nice going out clothes, especially if I am traveling for a show. Can't do a meet and greet in a t-shirt and jeans really. But during the day I stick to what I would wear any other day.

I'm not heavily alternative in my style anyway, so I tend to get away with wearing what I usually would.

Now our recent visit to the NT - that was all shorts and t-shirts. Because its just too freaking hot. Though I think you can still dress for the weather and be stylish if you have the right clothing. I wore cute little retro shorts and shirts or singlets. I think the truckers arm I have from the drive to Cape Arnhem is still the worst fashion disaster I have experienced ;)

My everyday clothes are almost all black (though, like you, I like bright/glittery highlights), cover my arms and my legs (because I grew up in Queensland and am always cold) and are complemented by whichever pair of Docs I'm favouring at the time. So, bizarrely, with my unnaturally coloured dreads and layers and layers of make-up, I'm still practically and modestly dressed for almost any occasion. I had no trouble getting into the Vatican, but a beachy girl in a miniskirt and thongs did :P
